Yes that's all you need. Then you will have to remember to switch inputs/sources on your television. Blu-ray players are inexpensive enough these days to justify purchasing them.

Yes, an hdmi connection is the very best. However, if you are not able to connect your dvd player the other way, just choosing hdmi or not might not solve your issue. Hdmi connections allow upconverting and thus a higher picture quality for you.

SOURCE: new Sceptre 37" LCD TV does not turn on

I just got a 42" komodo by Sceptre, same problem, except "SCEPTRE" showed on the screen. I was sent a USB key program to insert in the service slot in the back and it reflashes the bios. This is old news for you but maybe new for someone?

For most TVs in the market, you would use their DYNAMIC or VIVID mode for the best picture settings.

When you chose the settings menu what do you chose to set the tv to hdmi to get the dvd/blue ray player to play

There are two HDMI inputs on your TV, so, depending on which input the DVD player is plugged into, HDMI 1 or 2 , that's the one you choose. The menu should list the inputs as HDMI 1 and HDMI 2.

HDMI cables are actually wonderfully simple to connect. Once you have connected one end to the TV and one end to the DVD player, you will simply need to change your input channel using your TV's remote. Find a Input or Video source button and press it until the screen says HDMI. Now your TV may have several HDMI ports so you may have to try a couple HDMI channels before you find the right one.

Hope that helps!

Where do to plug in the cord to connect the tv to the DVD player?

Hello

You have several options for connecting your DVD player to your GV42L FHDTV10A - HDMI,

Component, S-Video and Composite (AV) inputs. Based on your home theater configuration, you can
decide which option is the right one for you.
connected to the HDMI input of the VIZIO GV42L FHDTV10A for optimal results.

To maintain the display quality, use a VIZIO certified HDMI cable available up to 10 meters or less.

1. Turn off the power to the LCD HDTV and DVD player.

2. Connect a HDMI cable to the HDMI output of your DVD player and the other end to the HDMI

Input (white color area) at the rear of the LCD HDTV.

3. Turn on the power to the LCD HDTV and your DVD player.

4. Select HDMI using the INPUT button on the remote or side of the LCD HDTV, or directly by
pressing the HDMI button on the Remote Control.

a) If you are already using the HDMI 1 input for another component, or you do not want to use

the HDMI 1 input for the DVD player, you can connect the DVD player to the HDMI 2

connection.

b) Refer to your DVD player user manual for more information about the video output
requirements of the product.

What cables do you need to connect a dvd player to a vizio hdtv

If your dvd player has a hdmi hook up "easy" just use 1 hdmi cable from the dvd player to the tv. If not use the 5 cord for better picture quality.

How do i hook my dvd player to my tv? i have no manual to show me where to plug the wires into the back of my tv.i have a proscan 32LB30Q LCD

Hello pebbles12137,

This depends on what you want to do SD or HD

First if you just want to connect for SD only

Here are Three ways:

1) connect the coaxial cable to the DVD player F-connector (sliver screw connector) and the to the TV's Antenna in F-connector.

2) connect the yellow, red and white RCA connector end wires to the yellow, red, and white RCA Jacks of the TV Yellow (video in), Red (Right Audio in), White (Left Audio in) do the same for the other end into the DVD player (Best SD Method)

3) connect the svideo cable into the s-video socket of the TV and the other end to the s-video socket of the DVD player

For HD, Here are the connection methods:

1) Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI in of the TV (HDMI1)and the other end of the HDMI cable into the DVD player. (best HD method)

2) connect the Component video cable (RGB) into the RGB sockets of the TV (should be marked as Component 1) and connect the other end to the DVD player (using this method you will have to connect the Red and White audio cables to the audio input jacks of the TV from the audio out of the DVD player)

These are the SD and HD methods.

I would suggest using the HDMI cables only, its the best choice and the simplest.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. Vizio L32 32 in. HDTV LCD HDMI input not working

I recently had the same problem with my vizeo hdmi port # 1 going bad. Tried everything to fix and called vizeo. There solution for a master reset was turn off tv and unplug from the wall. then hold down the power button for 30 secs and let go. plug the tv back in and hold down the volume down and input select buttons down on side of the tv for 15 secs. release the buttons and turn the tv on after powering down all the components connectd to the tv. If this does not work they told me you need to have it sericed for a bad hdmi input. Hope this info helps anyone out there. It didn't work for me. Its a bummer cause the tv is well taken care of and only 18 months old. Best of luck to all others.

Text looks awful on monitor - not a ClearType or videocard problem Hey guys, Background: I recently built a new rig and I'm using a new video card - Nvidia 480. On the video card end it's connected with mini-HDMI and on the monitor it's connected with HDMI. My monitor doesn't have DVI and my previous computer didn't have HDMI. The monitor is a Sceptre X240BV-FHD and has a ATSC tuner. I think that's the culprit. The problem: The text looks overly sharp and pixelated. It's hard to read. BUT if I play a video game it works fine. The screen is too far zoomed in when set to 1080, which is what the monitor natively supports. I fixed that with the Nvidia control panel, though. What I've tried: I'm currently using the latest driver: 296.10 I've tried adjusting the cleartype settings. The cable is OK because. I just bought it from monoprice.com. I've also used DVI-HDMI and that didn't work. I've tried adjusting all of the monitor settings I can... nothing has fixed it yet. There is a generic driver for the monitor, but that's what it was on the old rig also. If I take a screenshot to post on here, everything looks correct. So, I think the video card is sending the correct information and the monitor is goofing. But I understand it can be caused by EDID flags the monitor is setting. I've hooked up my video card to other computers and it looks fine. I've hooked up another computer to my monitor and it also looked screwed up. Notes: Oddly, I've used DVI-VGA and that fixes the problem... but then that introduces problems with HDCP while trying to play Blu-Ray movies . Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks, Joe
