Question about Air-O-Swiss 7133 Humidifier

Open Question

Air-o-Swiss 7135 makes a loud constant buzzing noise when running

The Air-o-Swiss 7135 is supposed to be silent, but when I operated it out from the box (brand new), it made (and still makes) a constant buzzing noise.  I can't put it into my room since it's too loud to keep it there.
Is there something I'm not doing that is making it buzz like that, or could it be a defective product?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Mine started buzzing loudly after 3.5 years of operation. The warranty is 3 years. The noise seems to be coming from the membrane directly and induces secondary resonance in the base. The unit has been cleaned meticulously and there's no apparent reason for it to start buzzing and squeaking.

SOURCE: Air-o-Swiss room humidifier (model 7142) No mist flows

It is intersting that several folks seem to be having this problem. In early December 2009 I noticed that the replacement AOS demineralization granules were wet when I opened the sealed metal envelope. I opened a couple of others and they were the same way. After a couple of weeks after replacement, the unit started puffing steam before it stopped altogether. My husband opened the cartridge and said all the crystals were clumped to one side. I emptied out the cartridge and ran it for a few days (about 4) without any crystals until it stopped generating mist altogether. Air still flows and the heater works. But it appears that the ultrasonic disc in the bottom of the unit quit. Not sure if this was all coincidental... Especially when seeing several other people with the same problems over the last couple of months.

Tonight the AOS customer service/tech support said I shouldn't run the unit without the crystals but they appeared to be concerned about the white dust.

Anyway, the AOS U7142 has a three year warranty. If you have a receipt call customer service at 1-800-336-0326 immediately. If it is after three years they said they would charge $60 to fix it.

SOURCE: Air-o-swiss 7135 humidifier not misting

Ours has done the same thing after only 2 weeks. From article research, it appears that this occurs to everyone after cleaning it with the EZ Cal that is recommended. From looking at our unit and figuring out how it works, it appears as though the Ultrasonic Vibration membrane has stopped working. This particular piece is responsible for vibrating the water and making water mist particles which are blown out with the air. We will be calling the manufacturer on Monday to register a complaint and request a replacement unit.

SOURCE: Air-o-swiss 7135 humidifier not misting

I read this and thought "Hurrah! My solution at last!" But I tried it -- unscrewed the cartridge at least a 1/2 turn looser -- and still no dice. No mist, that is. Any ideas out there? This unit used to work just fine, but I put it away in storage for about 9 months and now it fails to produce mist (but appears to work otherwise). Darn it!

Check the outlet that it's plugged into, to make sure that the outlet is still active and a circuit breaker in your home's breaker panel hasn't been tripped. If nothing else, plug the unit into another outlet, that's on a different circuit.

How to clean air-o-swiss humidifier?

Gererally according to the booklet in the box.
If you no longer have those instructions, simply clean out the
basin, make sure no mold, dust, hardwater or calcium is deposited.
Use a 10% bleach water solution to kill bacteria, and thats is basically it.
Just dont miss any spots, but humdifiers should be cleaned every few uses.
