You need to remove the cover to the unit, then locate the capacitor, this will be either a round or oval looking can with wires attached to it. Mark the wires so you no where they will go on the new one, then take a insulated scredriver and short the terminals by placing the screwdriver over the terminals for a few seconds, then remove wires and install new capacitor.

Check your capacitor. If it is swollen, it needs to be replaced with high quality german or USA made capacitors. Take the circuit board to an electronic shop and ask them to replace the capacitors. I paid $25 including the 2 german made capacitors C311 and C312.

Your system works with a capacitor and contactor-relay to start the compressor. If you replace the contactor-relay that should solve your problem, if the compressor is okay.

Kenmore 12000 btu turns on fine but after a few minutes fans shut off and compressor keeps running this is a heat and air model

First replace fan capacitor and try, if not, bearings worn out in your fan motor. Replace bearings or motor with new capacitor.

I have used my Kenmore food processor MAYBE 10 times. Yesterday I turned it on, lights came on but the motor just hums. Is my only choice to buy a new one? Because it sure won't be from Sears, if so.

I have the same problem with mine. It is almost certainly the motor start capacitor. I have been looking for a replacement capacitor from an outside source, but so far have had no luck. The capacitor used is an obscure size and model. I have found the manufacturer of the capacitor, but no electronic suppliers carry this brand. It is almost certainly going to be a Sears replacement part item.

Fan does not operate in my 54501 Kenmore dehumidifier; therefore, unit gets very hot.

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.
