Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Control board for Neptune top load washer has to be replaced.

A few days the the washer stopped, with OP as an indicator. Now the machine will not function at all. A technician did numerous test and the result is that the control board is shot. I thought only the front loaders were affected by this problem.I'm very angry because I detrimentally relied on Maytag's good reputation.

My Maytag Neptune washer is not spinning and I tried only Spin cycle for 12 minutes and gave LR error message. Pl help?

Hi, the Maytag Neptune front load washer LR or Locked Rotor error indicates and issue with the motor drive system. The motor control board is located near the floor on the right side. See Neptune Disassembly help to remove the door and front panel to get access, if needed.

I would unplug machine, remove all connectors and reinstall a few times and retry machine in case of any oxidation on the connectors. Also, check the belt and make sure it has not popped off. There is a rear access cover you can remove to take a peek.

In addition, there is a motor drive test you can perform to see if the inner tub will rotate at 50 rpms. You should have a document with your machine that instructs how to perform this simple test and it could be located in the top console.

Depending on which machine you have... If the motor control board has failed then you may have to replace the motor and motor control board since Maytag redesigned them because they were having reliability issues with them and they decided to change the motor technology they were using. See maytag maytag Neptune motor conversion kit for more info.

I hope this helps...

Washer finally stopped working on OP code,Touch pad lights go blinking intermittently and all light up dimmly at times, now it's stuck on OP and lid is locked! any suggestions?

This could be a Control Board or Console problem.

Could be something like the ribbon cable from the Console to Control Board connection.

Do you wnat to troubleshoot the problem? You can release the washet top from the base to get your clothes out. You can't get the SM from this site anymore. It available at other DIY sites. I

I discuss releasing the washer top from the base at this link

Troubleshooting manual washer code op door locked wont open unplugging didnt work

You can release the washer top from the base with a putty knife

See page 33 of the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual

Your machine is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A correct? If so you have Left Hand Lid Lock signaling issues to the Control Board.....are you the DIY type of owner? If so I will help you to issue resolution.

Maytag Neptune top load. I am getting an od code

Be sure to unplug the washer before attempting any troubleshooting. On the Maytag Neptune the "OP" code indicates a problem at the door switch. These washers have a common problem associated with this code. The door isn't completely waterproof and allows water to get into the area where the lid switch is, corroding the electrical contacts and wires. Use a putty knife or screwdriver to open the top of the machine to access the door locks. Look for any broken or corroded wiring connections and reseat and clean as necessary. Test the switch using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity will indicate a faulty switch. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

Op is showing on board will not start

If your machine is a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW take a look at this post and another post I link to in that post and see if you can work toward a fix.

Try placing a magnet over the left bumper and see if it clears the OP alarm if it doesn’t you will need to troubleshoot the left Lid Lock assembly.

The OP alarm is associated with the Lid Magnet operating the Magnetic Reed Relay and signaling back to the Control Board thru the left lid lock plug and cable assembly.

Maytag Neptune keeps giving us the OP signal

Hello Kristi,
If its FAV6800A/FAV9800A try placing couple 1” dia magnets or similar magnet on the left bumper of the machine and see if that will clear the the “OP” lid open alarm, see pic attached. If that clears the alarm the lid magnet may have moved out of position in the inner lid. See page 33 of the FAV6800A/9800A Service Manual for its location. If that doesn’t clear the “OP” alarm remove 120VAC to the machine and try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock a few times to possible clear corrosion causing loss of signaling from the left lid lock to the control board Lid Is Closed input. See page 33 and 34 of the SM for pics if the left lid lock and lid magnet. I recommend surge protection on the120VAC outlet powering the machine to help protect the washer control board. Good luck Rich.
Place some external magnets on left bumper and see if that will clear the "OP" alarm.

Try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock. Be careful, it may be difficult to remove for the 1st time.

My Neptune top-loader washer,

Evidently the "OP" code indicates the lid is "open". Solution in my case: I had to replace a wire on the lid switch that a
had rusted and no longer connected to the switch resister.

There is a magnet in the left, front corner of the plastic lid insert. When the lid is closed, this magnet sets on top of the tan colored plastic pad on the left front top of the base washer unit. When the lid is closed, the magnet activates two, small metal rods on each end of a resister within the white. You have to pop up the top of the washer base to gain access to the switch, Good luck,

OP Code

ONLY O9NE QUICK SOLUTION. UNPLUG THE WASHER THEN LOCATE THE 2 WIRES CONNECTED TO THE DOOR LIMIT SWITCH. BRIDGE THEM OUT CAREFULLY THEN PLUG WASHER BACK ON AND TRY. IF IT CONTINUES, CALL A TECH AS BOARD COULD BE AN ISSUE.
