Question about PC Desktops

I purchased Norton antivirus for mac and installed it. When I went to register it I was instructed to open the symantec solutions folder and then double click on Register your software...the problem is that the file came up in French not English. I also wanted to know if you have to have 2009 because the store sold me one that has 2007 copyright on the disk.

Hi ,Unfortunately it is not possible to change language option in Norton Antivirus interface. If you have no idea of the language, you can switch between two 90 days English OEM installer to get the free subscription without limits.

Reinstall the program again but make sure English is chosen as the language. Sounds like the language got dropped down by one. They're so close alphabetically they're probably right next to each other.
As for the copyright, no need to worry. You actually buy a year's worth of protection from them not their 2007 protection.

How do you use the PGP Shredder, the drag-and-drop item on the desktop - it doesn't seem to do anything!

I have sold, installed and maintained Symantec products for two decades now. I am sad to say it has become a terrible company that makes and repackages terrible products. Symantec was completely hacked a few years ago with all source code stolen and, recently, Symantec/Norton antivirus have removed themselves from all independent product testing because it makes them look bad. They only allow companies that can be paid to provide positive survey results, like Gartner Group, to review their products. I will never again trust Symantec to protect my computer or my clients' computers which includes shredding files. For what it is worth, I have moved all my clients to Kaspersky. Check out AV-Comparatives.org for unbiased reviews of antivirus/security products. Symantec disappeared from this review site a few years ago after consistently finishing near the bottom of the list. Even the free antivirus that comes with Windows, Windows Defender, beat out Symantec when they were being tested.

However, that doesn't help you shred files so here's my pick for that task: http://www.fileshredder.org/

I hope this helps.

I have just installed Symantec AntiVirus and installed the updates ok, but when i come to scan the scan engine returned error 0x20000003 comes up any solutions Charmaine

Hello,

Rhis error due to there is a resident virus or your system infexted by virus already. for the main time try to install other antivirus. you can get it here for free: http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

And then scan your system. You can remove the sysmantec if you like AVG or you can reinstall the symantec if there is no error in your system. remove either of the two antivirus to avoid conflict in the system.

may this help,

I have difficulty in uninstalling my nortan antivirus software

Here are the steps to Remove it Fully :

  1. Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Scroll down to your Norton program
  3. Click Change --> Remove All.
You will be asked to restart your PC. Do so.
  4. Now go to Start --> My Computer --> Program Files. Right click on each Symantec folder and select Delete.
  5. While you are in Program Files go to the Common Files folder at or near the top of the Program Files window. Delete every Symantec folder there. And, again, restart your PC.
  6. Go to Start --> Search --> All Files and Folders --> More Advanced Options. Check each option except for "Case sensitive"
Now type in Norton and delete each Norton folder from the search results (Again, right click, choose "Delete"). One more time, restart your PC.
  7. Repeat step 5 except type Symantec in the "Search" box.

The next step is trickier: go into the Registry.
  1. First thing to do is Back up the Registry. I'll be saying more about the Registry later. But suffice it to say that the presence of uninstalled security software in the Registry can conflict with newly installed security software and cause system freezes. So can folders of "uninstalled" programs for that matter.
  2. Once again, go to Start, then click on "Run". Type in "regedit"
  3. Go to the top of the Regedit window. Click (+) next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Go down the thread until you see Software. Click on Software and scroll down the thread until you see Symantec. Right click on Symantec and choose "Delete".
  4. From there go down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and repeat step 3. Restart your PC.
  5. Click (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, now: Click (+) next to Software, Click (+) next to Microsoft, Click (+) next to Windows and Click (+) next to CurrentVersion.
  6. Select the Run folder. Right-click and delete each Symantec entry you see (if present). Restart your PC.
That should completely eradicate Norton Antivirus from your system!

My Norton anti virus has stopped working and will not activate

Bro, my suggestion is, you uninstall you Norton Anti-virus including the Symantec folder installation then install one that is free but can still perform as good as Norton. I am not saying NOrton Anti-Virus is a bad program but, it is systemic and slows down your computer a bit. Norton is a great product everybody kows that !!!! What i can share with you is that, try downloading AVG free or AVAST home edition for which, if you are connected to your net, they regularly send updates to your computer as long as you are registered and your key is up to date. If your Norton Anti-virus is notactivating, it only means one thing, it's not updated.

I just completed an order for Norton Antivirus 2008 on the internet and received confirmation of my order. I am, however, confused. I sat at my computer through the download and installation; however,...

Hello fayerogers02

This is process is confusing for many people. So, don't feel like The Lone Ranger.

Actually, you'll need to click on the "download" link in the email sent to you by Symantec in order to download your new software. What you have done so far is to purchase the product along w/ a subscription for antivirus definitions updates for one or more years.

Usually, the course of action is to uninstall previous versions of their software. However, Symantec's installation processes have gotten pretty good about letting the user know if the previous version of the product needs to be uninstalled.

Often times, the installation process of a newer version of a Symantec product will take care of uninstalling its predecessor for you.

IF you have purchased a newer version of the SAME Symantec product (e.g. Norton Antivirus), then I recommend you download the new product and run the install.

See if it will take care of the uninstall of the previous version for you. If you need to uninstall the previous version yourself, you will be prompted to do so.

IF, however, you have purchased a DIFFERENT product that happens to also INCLUDE Norton Antivirus, please, don't run the install yet. Instead, post back here and let me know exactly what each of the two Symantec products are called (the older and the newer one) and I'll instruct you in how to handle the installation process of the newer one.

If you have ANY more questions at all, please, post back here and let us know. We'll be more than happy to continue to assist you.

Please, wait until you have everything you need and you no longer need our assistance b4 assigning a rating.

If I answered your questions and you have no other questions or need of our assistance on this topic...would you kindly take just a moment to close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my "solution"? I would be very grateful for your generosity and show of appreciation.

Thank you once again for using FixYa! Have a beautiful day.

go to symantec.com and download norton removal tool to simply remove your antivirus. then re-install. btw, always empty %temp%, temp, and prefetch. this will help increase the installation rate.
