2004 explorer 4.0 sohc tries to die out at 75 mph any ideas on the problem.

Hello! I suspect a defective Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS)...Ther are two inside one encapsulated device...See photo below...If you have a voltmeter they can be tested...The TPS is bolted to the throttle body and has a 4 wire connector...Pin 1=signal out..A Gray/White wire...Pin 2=+5 volts...Yellow/White...Pin 3=Ground...Pink/Orange...Pin 4=signal out...Yellow/White..(maybe a different color)...Using two safety pins push the points into the rear of the in-place connector...Into the Pink/Orange and the Gray/White...Set the meter to read 5 volts...Clip the (+) probe to the Gray/White and the (-) probe to the Pink/Orange...Start the engine...Must read less than 1 volt (.85) at idle...As you increase the throttle to full the meter must read 4.5 volts...
Next move safety pin and (+) probe to Pin 4...Perform the same test...Again meter must read 4.5 volts at full throttle...If either reading is in error the TPS is the culprit...Guru...saailer

Replace egr and even had the computer reflash and still have same code po1404. 1998 gmc 1/2 ton 4x4 with 5.7 angine and autmatic

If you bought an after market EGR valve you need to make sure was identical to your original there are many different ones out. I have customer replaces theirs and come in to find out the one they bought was for a 2.2 S-10. BUt i have also seen a lot of these replaced when it was just a bad harness or broken wire before the connector. The wires are generally pulled over the connector very tight and over time they break inside.
