Try reinstalling the audio driver. If you haven't this driver on a CD then you need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: - http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html

what is the error? wrong codec or no audio device installed/detected? in the case of the first problem, try downloading something like k-lite codec pack. otherwise you have the wrong audio drivers installed. for that you need your motherboard number, google for it for the right drivers, or alternatively download everest, find your audio model number, and download drivers for the mdel via google.
