Image burn can be permanent if the image was left on for a long period of time. You can try a pure white screen to balance the screen out. They sell DVDs online that have white screen and other screen correcting images to try an correct the damage done to your panel. here is one linked plasma or LCD both can burn.

good luck- nobody gives away a dvd player software for free these days. Usually they come bundled with Nero- or other burning software. You can try bittorrent- but look at the comments- usually you are downloading a virus too. Try a local computer repair shop- they will probably have one they can sell you cheap.
