Dell firmware to Seagate SAS

The firmware for any electronics device tells the hardware how to properly function.

Most devices rarely need a firmware upgrade, however, computer products such as a Seagate hard drive need to have the firmware updated periodically due to computers constantly going through operating system upgrades.

Luckily, you can update your Seagate hard drive firmware with an Internet connection and a few clicks of your mouse.

Connect your Seagate hard drive to your computer if the hard drive is external.

Launch your Internet browser and navigate to the Seagate.com website.

When the site loads click the "Downloads" button.

Click on the hard drive listing you currently own.

This brings up all of the most current downloads for your Seagate hard drive.

The listings of the hard drives have the image, so match your hard drive to the image online if you are not sure what drive you have.

The user manual states what hard drive you currently own also.

If you don't have your owners manual, open "My Computer" (or "Computer") and right-click the hard drive icon and select "Properties."

Here the computer states exactly what model of hard drive you have.

Click the Firmware update and click the "Download" button to launch the download.

Click-and-drag the file into the hard drive if you are using an external hard drive

(open "My Computer," then double-click the removable hard drive icon).

Open the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the updated firmware.

Hope this helps

I have HP HDX-18 laptop, Windows 7 Ultimate installed I installed Segate BlackArmor WS 110 on the PC The IPv4 Address :192.168.0.199 IPv4 DNS Server :192.168.0.1 I used: Programs...

I'm assuming the IP address of 192.168.0.199 is actually that of the computer you are using and not that of the Seagate. You need to determine the address of the Seagate, download this: PortScan
Unzip and run it. Start address is 192.168.0.1, end address is 192.168.0.255 (it should automatically detect this). The scan will display a list of all the devices connected to your network and attempt to display what it is. Locate the Seagate and enter its IP in the text box.

Every time I start my laptop, the page stalls on configuring at 0% and takes approximately 5 minutes before it will say "failure to configure updates, reverting changes." I haven't been able...

A failure in updating could happen when you suddenly get disconnected or downloaded corrupted data which happens a lot. And it seems that there is no local check to ensure that the file is actually complete. It just attempts to install the downloaded material even if its not complete. The stupid thing is that even though you try to update again, it just checks the cache, see that its there and won't bother redownloading the files.

Therefore when you face such a scenario, you could take these steps to solve your problems:
  1. Open Command Prompt by Start -> Run and type "cmd"
  2. On the Command Prompt, type "net stop wuauserv". This is done so that you will terminate the windows automatic update service to allow us to delete the cache files
  3. Still on the Command Prompt, type "cd /d %windir%" or "cd\windows"
  4. Type "rd /s SoftwareDistribution"
  5. Thats it, the cache has been purged. Now we need to restart the windows automatic update service again. To do that, type "net start wuauserv"
Thats all. Its simple right? Good luck.

sounds like you are using win7 64bit maybe? if so then there is your problem, since win 7 came out it has had driver issues with any type of external drive being recconized. Sometimes they work others not at all. If this is your problem, check out windows for their patch(works for some, but not all, worth a try). Another option is to check to see if there is a driver update for your specific type of PC/Mac from the seagate website, and that may solve it for you.

Hi Sean

did you terminate the scsi chain accordingly?.. you may have to do that physically on the scsi controller and your scsi drive (check your manuals or the device themselves.. make sure also they're using different id's.

after checking termination and id's i would check the seagate's website for an updated driver or the the windows update website (manual update) to see if there's something new...
