Many internet provider only covers the installation of the cable modem. When you connect a router to the modem, the internet provider views the router as a new computer and not authorized since when they setup the modem, it was connecting directly to the computer, not the router. You need to contact your internet provider and let them know the situation, and usually they have a website to activate or add the router to their list under your account. If this is not done, usually it won't be able to get the internet. You are getting the signal from the router since it is broadcasting the signal, but no internet connection.

Is the problem with the router ie. can you connect to the internet through other means? Try switching the wifi on your PC on, and make sure that the built in modem is enabled to pick up wifi (provided your machine supports wifi connectivity).
A router is only used to connect devices together in a LAN (local area network). In order to get out to the internet you also will need a modem (cable or dsl depending on your service) You will also need to pay for service through an ISP (Internet Service Provider)
I see you are having issue with your smartphone pulling up internet from your Linksys Router.
What browser do you use on your smartphone and is there an Error message when you try to pull up the internet on your smartphone?
Have you tried checking the wireless settings on your Linksys router to check for any restrictions? and is there a password for you to connect to your wireless router? if there is try to remove the password/security and test to see if your smartphone will be able to pull up the internet with no issues.
Also in your Routers Wireless settings check if there is a setting that allows the router to be detected all the time also on your smartphone make sure that on the Wi-Fi setting the phone is set to be detected by other devices, cause if it is set hidden then it may cause issues on your connection from your smartphone to the Router.
What smartphone do you have so we can check both devices for setting concerns that may hinder in getting the proper internet connection from the Linksys Router.
I believe other devices can connect to the Linksys Router with no issue such as a laptop maybe, if possible maybe you can try another device that has WI-Fi and try to connect to your Linksys and check if there will be connection issues, also if possible you have a friend that has a smartphone of a different brand model and see if his or her smartphone will also have the same issues connecting, if so then the issue is not on your smartphone but most probably is on your Routers wireless settings.
Try resetting the Linksys Router back to factory defaults then try connecting and see if the issue will still be the same or if it will work from there.
Che\k in device manager if the dongle is working properly. For hat in run type "devmgmt.msc" and find the dongle and double click on it. If it says some problem try re-installing the drivers..if it says device is working properly then restart the computer and search for the wi-fi. If it still doesnt recognise take the dongle to a hot spot like a cafe and check if it can detect wifi. If it detects else were its and issue with the wifi at home..if it doesnt recognise the wifi in hotspot its an issue with the dongle.
No it will not work you cannot connect a router to another router wirelessly and it will most likely not be detecting each other, routers are built to transmit internet signals from modems if you have a router and a computer but you do not have your own internet connection that will not work conencting to another router you will need USB Wifi Card transmitter/reciever to be able to connect to your friends wireless internet.
but if your friend only has a modem you can lend him your router and get a USB wifi transmitter/reciever to be able to connect to your router that is conencted to your friends modem this will work but will not work if you and you friend will both have a router creating a network.
from what i have read, your router is broadcasting a signal, and your modem has an open and active internet gateway.
pls make sure that the connection from the modem to the router are correct. the modem should be connected in the port with the label internet. you may have to reset your modem AFTER you have connected the wireless router to allow the router to be assigned an ip. now with the wireless router and broadband modem connected, you can connect to the network and access the internet. pls repost if you hit any snags
GOOD LUCK and PLS rate this post.
it probably cant connect to the dns server of the wifi.
check the numbers of the dns server the college uses for wifi, program them into your ipod(sometimes 'detect automatic' doesnt work on public wifi), then it should be able to connect.
if ur laptop detect full signal from ur router, click on the signal and let ur laptop connect to the signal..coz even ur laptop detect the signal,it doesnt auto connect,so u hve to connect it manually..
it may be that the router is not assigning ip addreses properly, and is duplicating the ip address on all pc's. or you have done the windows diagnose and repair or detect problems.
Go to the properties of each wireless card in control panel>network connections and on the TCP/IP line click propertes again and ensure obtain ip address automatically is checked.
Also go into the routers settings and ensure DHCP is enabled to give all pc's an automatic ip address.
Restart all pc's and your router (not Reset) and you should get renewed ip addresses and be able to connect.
