Question about Brother MultiFunction Center MFC-440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Multiple jams Have a 330 Brother less than a yr old. Started continuous jams at the back. At first thought it was from multiple feeds - I'd have to pry out several sheets, then tried only one sheet, and it jammed. What's happening here? Paper properly aligned. Just started after plenty of successful printing with only the odd jam, easily fixed.

re-read and found a typo - it's a 440. The paper comes out of the tray and winds around the back roller and jams. When there are more sheets in the tray, I've found as many as 10 on the floor under the roller. I plan to try again later today and see whether a miracle has happened and it has corrected itself. Does someone know whether there is a feeder lever or something that may have become too smooth?

I waited awhile to let the machine cool down (and me too!) Then I put in a fresh batch, being especially carefull to align everything. Since then it's worked fine. I did print out a cupla emails while I was chillin.

Constant Paper Jam

check the wheels that pick it from the tray.
If they feel smooth, try to put some tape on them and rip it back off.
This cleans the wheels. Also try a new pack of paper and check if it\'s set to plain paper and not to heavier or coated paper

My Brother HL 5250DN printer has started making a loud clicking sound when it tries to feed paper for printing. It then stops and the paper light starts flashing.

Clear the jammed paper as follows.
Observe Cautions signs in printer.
Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and prevents paper jams.
1. Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.
2. Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. The jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
3. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.
4. Close the front cover.
5. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.
6. Open the front cover again.
7. Open the back cover.
8. Pull the tabs at the left and right hand sides toward you to open the fuser cover (1).
9. Using both hands, gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
10. Close the back cover.
11. Pull the duplex tray completely out of the printer.
12. Pull the the jammed paper out of the printer or the duplex tray. Put the duplex tray back in the printer.
13. Push down the blue lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Clear the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
14. Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically.
15. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer.
16. Put the paper tray firmly back in the printer.
17. Close the front cover.
18. Make sure that the Paper LED is now off and the printer is ready.
After clearing paper jam if noise persist printer may need a Repair Tech and parts replacement for broken or wore parts.

Frequent Paper Jams in Brother HL-2140

Every 120,000 pages, the paper feed rollers, fuser, transfer roller, and OPC belt cartridge should be replaced, usually by a trained techncian.
Fuser and OPC belt units are customer-replacable.

The multiple feeding of the paper into the printer is due to a worn paper separation pad. part no. LM0711001. If the machine is picking up the paper okay and the jams occur solely from multiple sheet feeding, then this part is probably all you will need. The steps required to access and remove & replace the separation pad unfortunately is about 10 steps. Better consult a tech.
