Windows 98 does not support Plug n Play Devices. So you have to download appropriate drivers from Microsoft Website. Though Windows 98SE ( Windows 98 Second Edition ) thought to be support USB Mass Storage Drives fairly, these drivers are not pre-installed with OS. You have to download Service packs to install these drivers.
Since Windows 98 have TWO versions, we have to download corresponding service packs .
Hi if you use win98 go to control panel and click add hardware, follow the wizzard and it should work or install the drivers connect device and restart your pc.
If the problem stay on let me know
Well, there is a solution, but it depends how comfortable you are with computers. I assume you have a driver to use it under windows 98, and I'm hoping it's a cd burner, and that you have XP install disk.
You would need to use a program called nLite or another similar one, but this is the only one I've personally used. Just googled for it and you'll find instuctions on their site. You will be using that program to copy your XP install CD to your harddrive, integrating the needed drivers with it, and then burning a new bootable XP install CD that includes the needed drivers.
Well, Occam's razor philosophy! I just tried on my 250 Gb IOMEGA external HDD on Win98 and it worked. "Mass storage" jargon driver does NOT work. HOWEVER if you declare it as "USB FLASH DISK", it WORKS, (after computer reboots), though not that speedy. Anyway, you can do your job. Now if you have found any better solution, please forward it at email@example.com. Thank you!
