Eventually the front panel display will show "SERV" (after its "HELLO" messages). Anyway, pressing then on the Remote Control tells me that I have an Error Code of "04" which is a Digital PCB or Communication Error (whereas an Error code of "02" means a "Defect of RAM drive"). (To exit from Service Mode, press then which should get you back to "SERV" and then POWER-OFF the machine). Hopefully, your manual will display your error codes.
Perhaps the remote control is not set to the same control code as your DMR-ES40V. Codes may be set to 1, 2, or 3 on the remote by holding down the enter button and one of those number buttons for several seconds at the same time. The factory default is code 1. Try 1 first. If that doesn't work try 2. If that doesn't work try 3. If one of those codes doesn't work you may have a bad remote or a bad sensor on your machine. On DMR-ES35V models the sensor is located just to the right of center behind the black window
Your Onkyo DR90 DVD Receiver remote control does not have universal remote functions, and cannot be (easily) programmed to control a Panasonic DMR ES15. Your DR90 remote does have a limited learning function, but it is designed to learn the codes from your TV's remote to control the TV. Only the following buttons are programmable by the TV Learning function:
According to page 15 of the manual, you should "Press and hold [ENTER] and the indicated number button at the same time for more than 2 seconds" This will work for SET 1, SET 2, etc. If you have lost the manual for the DVR/Remote you can download a copy at http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRES15-MULTI.pdf
The remote control for my DVD recorder has stopped working. Every time I press a button, the display says "CHK REMOTE 1", "RC1" or "SET1". What is wrong?
Your DVD recorder remote control can be programmed (with different codes), so it can be used with multiple Panasonic DVD players. When you press a button and the display shows [CHK REMOTE #] or [RC#] or [SET#] it means that the DVD recorder and the remote control are not set to the same code.To set the remote control code to that of the DVD recorder, press and hold [ENTER] as well as the corresponding code number on the display (1, 2 or 3) at the same time for more than 2 seconds.
Got me too... If the buttons on the main unit work normally, then possibly main unit and remote control are using different codes. Main unit shows SET 1; change remote control code to match it: Press and hold [ENTER] and code number keys for more than two seconds. Fix listed in Operating Instructions troubleshooting guide, Operation section (pg 42). MULTI.PDF">http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRES15-MULTI.PDF
Had this same problem and found the solution elsewhere on the net. Hold down the "1" button and the "Enter" button for aprox 10 seconds while pointing at the player. This "resets" the remote. I was skeptical when I first read this solution but it worked for me!
