Question about Gateway 3040GZ PC Notebook

My CD/DVD Drive got Pwnt!

My CD/DVD Drive is "broken" in the sense that it is unrepairable by built in diagnostics. I attempted a driver re-install. to my dismay, I found there was no available driver anywhere, or on my provided "drivers" CD. I then attempted to fix it in Safe Mode, and this is where I ran into the one exception to my oh so typical problem. In any form of safe mode, the drive boots. It is a fully functional drive in safe mode. In a normal boot its visible in the manager but it has the "I don't work" exclamation point over it. I can't think of anything other than a new driver to fix this issue, but if you possess a higher technological capacity than I, or you've had this issue and resolved it, please lemme know!

Re: My CD/DVD Drive got Pwnt!

If you need a driver for it that's simple. Just go to: under support you'll find downloads and after clicking on that it will take you to an area that will allow you to download the appropriate driver... Another thing you might try, if you have a Windows operating system, is delete the CD/DVD and shut the system down... Windows on re-booting will identify the new hardware and attempt to automatically re-install a driver for it.. Good Luck! Bill

This sounds like your DVD/CD drive is going bad. If it was a driver issue you would probably get an error of "no disk in drive".
Try running diagnostics on your computer to seeif you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that came with thecomputer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents.Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to andselect "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the "service tag" (serialnumber) of the computer. You can then download "Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.
If you have issues trying to boot form this CD or running the diagnostics then you CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced.

goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it
.if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem

How do i use the dvd-player? .

On your model it does not have a dvd/cd rom built in. You will need to buy a external dvd/cd drive and hook it up through your usb port. Go into your operating system, then plug in the cable into the usb port. Turn on the Dvd/Cd, and windows should pop up of a hardware detect. If disc if provide with the external dvd/cd drive, use that and install the driver from that cd, you should be good to go.

I have a Vostro 1500 Dell laptop running Windows XP and just recently my CD/DVD drive has stopped working. I was wondering if I should reload my drivers and which ones I should download. Thanks, Mike...

There aren't specific drivers for a CD/DVD drive, they came built in the windows installer. If you have problems with you CD/DVD drive, you will have to change it. It's very easy, you won't have to dissamble the laptop. You can see on youtube how to replace a CD/DVD drive: There are CD/DVD drivers for 10$ on second hand.

Acer dvd driver missing acer ferrari 400 dvd uj-845-c

CD/DVD drive drivers are Operating System generic drivers and need not to be installed explicitly. The CD/DVD drive drivers are installed along with the Operating System and can be reinstalled automatically at next restart, if missing.

Check in the Device Manager under the "CD/DVD drive" category if there is any device listed there and having exclamation mark. If there is any exclamation mark visible beside the CD/DVD drive name then right click on it and restart the Computer.

Restarting the Computer will reinstall the CD/DVD drive driver thus causing it to work normally.

My toshiba satellite laptop does not recognize the cd-dvd player

Open up the Device Manager, right-click on the computer name and select Scan for hardware changes in the context menu. The system will attempt to re-detect all of your hardware. It should add the optical drive during this process (which will take several minutes). If it doesn't, your drive may be defective.

Hi. I have a toshiba equium l20-198 laptop dvd burning problems

there could be 4 things that's wrong that I can think of.

1. try this first, go and force xp to take your updated drivers by telling it to install from a specific location->don't search. I will choose the driver to install->have disk->have disk->point it to the driver's location-> continue and it should install that specific driver.
2. the software you're using to burn with isn't playing nicely with your drive. try using cdburnerxp which is a free burning software and test the results of those burns.
3. the firmware on your drive is corrupted(happens from time to time). try installing a new firmware from matshita's website. remember, firmware is different from drivers.
4. the dvd drive itself is busted. try using an external drive to burn a dvd(if you have one available) or switch the drive out and see if that fixes things.

after looking at some forums, seems like this drive is ripe with issues but hopefully it's not a hardware issue in your case.

hope that helps.

The drive for the CD keeps saying not accessable

I don,t think this is a Driver Problem.
More likely to be that the Disk your trying to read, is not supported by the Drive Itself.
Certain DVD Drives, only support certain types of Media. Either DVD- Or DVD+.
Try using different disks in the drive. music cds. DVD Movies et,c.
Usually you,ll get an error warning. **No drivers are installed for This Device**
