Question about Gateway 3040GZ PC Notebook
My CD/DVD Drive is "broken" in the sense that it is unrepairable by built in diagnostics. I attempted a driver re-install. to my dismay, I found there was no available driver anywhere, or on my provided "drivers" CD. I then attempted to fix it in Safe Mode, and this is where I ran into the one exception to my oh so typical problem. In any form of safe mode, the drive boots. It is a fully functional drive in safe mode. In a normal boot its visible in the manager but it has the "I don't work" exclamation point over it. I can't think of anything other than a new driver to fix this issue, but if you possess a higher technological capacity than I, or you've had this issue and resolved it, please lemme know!
If you need a driver for it that's simple. Just go to: http://www.gateway.com/ under support you'll find downloads and after clicking on that it will take you to an area that will allow you to download the appropriate driver... Another thing you might try, if you have a Windows operating system, is delete the CD/DVD and shut the system down... Windows on re-booting will identify the new hardware and attempt to automatically re-install a driver for it.. Good Luck! Bill
