Picture stays on for about 5 mimutes or so & srinks tom nothing
The sound is ok but the picture srinks from top to bottom then gone, it might try to come back on & if it does it doesn't stay up. I can leave it unpluged for a day or so, then plug it back up & it does the same thing all over again. It was given to me & all I want to do is get a manual or a service manual for it with pictures included to get an idea of what & where everything is & try to fix it myself. I read where it could have bad soilders causing this problem. If so whitch ones could it be.

Try these 3 things - wait at least 20 seconds before trying the next step: * Reset the device, you may need to use a paper clip to do this, then try the power switch. * Remove the SD card and re-insert it, then try the power switch * Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds.
No power? Unplug power cord- safety first!
check powersupply- top center right is p.s.
top left side of powersupply you'll see 5 capacitor 3300uF 10V.
see any pop up on top? replace it All with same rate or 16v is O.K.
do not use temperature rate 75c. Use 105C.
if you know how to solder. you could save $300 at least!

"My tom tom wonts switch on. I have reset it and still it comes on with a boom boom noise and shows the 2 hands on the screen. It also shows the loading bar at the bottom, but then it just freezes and nothing happens. can anyone help please ASAP"
Sound as though your Map data card is corrupt. Remove the SD card and check it with your computer using a card reader. Backup the SD card onto your computer. You can run either chkdsk or go to the drive letter under 'My Computer' right click and select properties, then tools, then check now. You can also try starting the Tomtom with the SD card out of the unit. It should show a picture of the Tomtom with a 'X'. You can also try copying the data on the SD card to another SD card.
