Question about Water Heaters

Open Question

I have a Rheem 101 series 250 litre hot water system circa 1994. It doesn't have a handbook. Can you switch it off from the junction box on the tank? And how long would it take to heat up again? y

Maybe more than 1 problem: Suspects are: crossover, sediment or assorted gunk is built up in bottom of tank, or a loose wire or bad circuit breaker, or loose connection somewhere at water heater.
There is no off-peak setting unless you wire up the water heater differently or install a timer.

1) When water is cold, open TP valve at hot water heater to see if tank has hot water.
If tank has hot water, but it does not arrive at faucet, then suspect is crossover:

2) To test if circuit breaker is problem, move wires to different circuit breaker with same amp rating:

3) Turn off power, open connection at top of heater and check that wire nuts are tight
Check all wire connections for signs of high heat and burning.

4) If bottom is filled with gunk, the lower part of heater can be slow to heat and will take so long that top part of heater will cool. Clean sediment out of tank.

Need water element for Rheem 191 series 250 lit mod 101250

any plumber whole sale shop ( reese, tradelink ) or any electrical whole sale shop( laurence and hanson GNW, haymans etc) will have the element and the seal The element wattage is stamped on the plate or on the model details on the side of the tank
costs around $50.00 aud
however from experience in getting the element to seal off properly and not leak I would advise that it be fitted by an plumber qualified in electrics

I have water in the junction box on top of my hot water heater and into the electrical conduit leading to the hot water heater.

I do not see your earlier post with photo.

The problem could be the conduit.....
-disconnect the conduit and wires from water heater
-run wire into a junction box set lower than top of water heater... -then run another #10 wire from the junction box up to water heater...
-So if water is coming from conduit, it will accumulate into junction box and not in the water heater wiring cavity.

Next thing....
... a water softener can cause rusted tank.
-Softened water adversely affects anode rod...
-causing anode rod to deplete faster...
-once anode rod is gone, then tank begins to rust.
-Here are details for checking anode rod each 2-3 years:

Rheen PVW50 Hot Water Heater Making Buzzing Noise and Doesn't Light

Why is it always Rheem problems?
Every water heater problem is Rheem.
And Rheem doesn't post any service manuals, like the other two big manufacturers, AO Smith-American, and Bradford White.

Copy following link for troubleshoot by gas control valve.

Scroll up and find pressure switch heading among links.

You can install gas control valve yourself.

I have a Rheem 120810BD hot water system and BCC won't pass the house cerification unless the hot water is a 4 star rating. Can anyone tell me if the system is 4 star rating? K

1) Call Rheem. I don't know the number outside the US.
1-800-432-8373
2) Contact local plumbing supply and ask who sells the Rheem unit. Then call that dealer and inquire about rating.

If you are paying for your water, I litre per hour is going to cost you. If the unit is 15 years old, I would seroiusly comsider replacing it buy, if it's just a bad valve, you could try to replace it. If it is cracked at the threads, it's time to replace it for sure.

I have a Rheemglas 250 litre electric hot water system. It seems to have stopped working. Is there anything I can try to get it working again? Otherwise I'll need a technician but hoping it's...

Make sure you have power to unit. Check the breaker in your breaker panel and look around unit for a timer or disconnect that may be having problems. I don't know if you are electrically inclined so if you are scared to take off front panel, don't do so. If you believe your breakers and/or any disconnects etc., are on and working, you can remove the screws holding the inspection panel on and press the reset button on the thermostat. There may be insulation covering the thermostat. The thermostat should have a plastic cover on it shielding the live wires while making it possible to press the reset switch. Again, if you are electrically inclined, you can check for power at the thermostat. These are the simple things you can check. If you reset the button, within about 3 to 5 minutes, you should here noise from inside the unit if it is working.
