Typical old Briggs flathead "L-Head" engines require about a .030" plug gap.

For a proper answer more info is needed. Here's a Briggs site that has spark plug gaps listed. Gap is not hyper critical for running.
.030-.045 will work. The only time I've seen gap matter was when it was too close like .005, the engine wouldn't run.

What is the end gap on the rings on a briggs model 130292


The reject sizes are:
  • Aluminum Bore >
    • Compression Rings .035
    • O-rings .045
  • Cast iron sleeved bore
    • Compression Rings .030
    • Oil Rings .035
There no spec on the minimum end gaps in the service but I generally used .005-.010 myself.

Wizard rototiller model 5hp. Briggs. Not getting fuel somehow. Fixed carberator. Spark plugs cleaned everything out... what could be the issue


is it a bowl style carb and you cleaned it is it a diaphram style and you replaced the diaphram ?the older 5hp briggs engines would run fine if you started it with carb cleaner some leaked head gaskets and could create enough vac to draw in the fuel

Wiring on an old 5hp Briggs and Stratton engine


The "heavy wire" connects to the spark plug. It should have a plug connector attached. There are 2 small wires. One of them grounds to the engine block (probably through one of the screws that holds the magneto in place). The other wire goes to the condensor/capacitor.
