Hi,
This external hard drive won't show up in "My Computer" or in the little destop bar (in the bottom right corner). The external drive already has files on it and I'm trying to open it up so I can view them.
I'm using a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop.

Was the data on this drive transferred from the same computer, or another and now you're trying to read it? If not, was the data transferred from a computer using the same operating system?
When you connected the drive, did the Operating system prompt you to install drivers? If it didn't, your port may not be enabled.... Unless Windows "sees" the new device, it cannot install the drivers necessary for the device to be reconized by Windows.
