The computer will start up fine. It even went to the desktop fine. But then all of a sudden the screen just went black. The computer was still running but just no image on the screen. Any idea what is the problem? Thanks.

Re: no picture on screen
Check your power settings:
go to Control Panel click on "Mobile PC click "Power Options" Depending on which one is highlighted check on its "Change plan settings" and check time on "display" and "sleep" options. Adjust settings per preference.
Click on Start> Click on Control Panel> Click on Power Options> Check "Power schemes"> Select "Hibernate" tab and check settings

If you shine a bright light at the screen, with no external screen connected, and you can see a picture/desktop just around the light source, the ballast unit or flourescent back light maybe faulty. If nothing at all, check out flea bay for a replacement screen.
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. I have the exact same problem! Never downloaded or did any changes to the software - it just suddenly wouldn't show anything on the screen when starting the machine. Could hear everything just fine, but the screen just went black. I connected it to an LCD flatscreen TV and there I saw Windows appearing, but there were strips/lines across the screen. The computer drive works fine - it's the graphic card. I've read many others having the exact same problem... Any solutions out there yet, anyone?
If you have a picture on your desktop and nothing on your external,With external screen plugged in check the output set up on display properties, may need to be set up again.
Once the screens are identified you should be able to save these settings and remember to set the correct screen size or you may experience Black screen syndrome were your video picture should be displayed,if in doubt start at the smallest (800x600) and work from there adjusting to suit the individual requirements.
