Question about Dremel Tools & Hardware - Others
Motor does not run, only if I am continuously pressing one cover of the two brushes, indicating that they are worn out. I have ordered new ones(I've received them) but cannot put them in, because I am unable to remove the old ones!(Don't say that I have to disassemble the motor to replace this basic maintainance requiring part!)

SOURCE: dremel 400 xpr stopped working.
It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag

Something amazing just happened! On my monitor screen, window popped up that said, "ASK A QUESTION - LET OUR EXPERTS SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM FOR FREE".
I couldn't resist getting expert advice for free, so I clicked on the window. I was immediately taken to a magical world where I can pay for expert advice. I opted not to pay for expert advice. The next day, I was asked if the help I received was helpful. So here I am posting this response. I haven't received any expert advice yet, but when I do....!

Electrically speaking there are a few items to check.
1) The easiest is to remove the two brush holders screws on each side by the power cord. If one of the screws are loose, or the bushes are worn you will get intermittent or no operation.
2) Second use a volt ohm meter to make sure you have voltage on the two brush connectors inside the brush holders when power is on. If you do then open the unit a check continuity on the motor armature to see if it is open, which will cost $13.37. If you do not have voltage, inspect the power cord and switch.
