My bobbin winder will not wind the thread onto the bobbin. I am working in sewing mode. It keeps giving an error message "E4". I have done everything according to trouble shooting for the manual and online support from the singer website. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong because nothing I try seems to work. Thank you. -Wendy

Re: Singer Futura 350
The E4, error message means the safety device is activated. Machine is locked up due to thread entangled with the bobbin case. Remove the needle plate and bobbin case. Check for any thread around the hook area. Also check your handwheel. It should turn freely. Good Luck

A stand alone bobbin winder DOES exist, is commonly available, does a better job, AND is inexpensive. Just go to the WalMart site (even if you don't want to buy from there) and put "bobbin winder" as a search term. My favorite is a Simplicity, available for under $25, AND if you order it and pick it up at one or their stores or a FedEx facility, shipping is free.
if the bobbin winder is driven of the end of the machine then you may have to guide the thread as it winds onto the bobbin
if you are allowing the thread to come directly from the reel and it is not in line to the bobbin then what you have is what will happen
My singer hasn't wound bobbins for years and I don't care because I use a Side Winder bobbin winder. It's much easier than takining the thread off the machine anyway. Available from Hancock, Jo Ann or even Wal Mart for about $30.
Are you using bobbin thread? Is your thead new? Is themachine threaded correctly?
Make sure that when you thread the upper part the thread go under the circle that pull it.
Another thing is that when you hit the start button, pull the upper thread until the machine goes two or three times. It helps the bobbin thread to come up and the machine start sewing.I you leave it along the thread sometimes doesnot comes up and that is why the machine beeps.
I use this technique to make sure it doesnt beep and to cut the thread (the one at the beginning so it doesn't mess my design)
When you engage the bobbin winder it has a small rubber in which it makes contact with the driver rubber maybe that is not making contact, to stop the cotton from showing on the top, adjust the small screw on the bobbin holder tighter clockwise.
Try to change the bobbin winder position from left to the right and back again, probably it hasn't moved exactly to the proper position.
Check the version of the software and machine firmware under menu Help->About Futura. If you do not have the latest ones, you can update them through Live Update in the same submenu.
first you must make sure the winder shaft is turning by moving it to the right a little and see if you can turn it by hand.
If it is turning ok then there is a rubber ring on the other end of the winder shaft and it should come in contact with the drive which turnes it ,if it is worn it might need a new rubber.
