Question about Apple LaserWriter 300 Printer

6 Answers

LaserWriter Select 360 paper light flashes. Won't print.

It has plenty of paper and I can see no problems, but the paper-out light flashes forever, a message appears on my Mac saying the printer is fixing a temperature problem or something like that, and it won't print. I tried turning it off for several hours to cool -- didn't work. So I tried leaving it on for hours to warm up -- didn't work. The room temperature is normal and the printer case feels normal. Could it be a temperature sensor gone bad? And where would I find it?

I did as MrScary suggested, but it didn't work. I couldn't actually reinstall the printer software because the original software was on floppies for an earlier OS and my iMac won't read floppies, so I deleted the Laserwriter Select 360 printer driver and copied the same version 4.6 from a backup on an external drive. No change. When I turn the printer on it goes through a normal startup for about 40 seconds, but when the green "on" light goes steady, the motor keeps running for another 90 seconds, then stops and the white "paper out" light starts flashing and doesn't stop until I turn the printer off. This time I didn't get any alert about printer temperature, but it still won't print.

Johnney98 suggested that it could be an unregulated voltage problem, but that's very unlikely. There have been no changes and everything else works fine.He suggested reinstalling the driver, but as I said this is an old Laserwriter Select 360 and the software is on floppies, which my iMac can't read, and are for an earlier OS, probably about 7. I've updated several times since then, I think. I tried just deleting the Laserwriter Select 360 file and replacing it with a backup copy, but that did nothing. Can I download an up-to-date driver? Aand which files should I replace? Or is it a hardware problem? Oh, one more thing. I just now started up the printer with no cables connected except the power cord, and it did the same thing, so maybe that rules out a software problem. I'd appreciate any more suggestions.

I'll try it (having the printer checked by an authorized service person). I'm thinking it is a hardware problem. Thanks

Your printer has a problem with the fuser.on apple laser writer it shows "printer is fixing the temprature". On an HP printer this would be a 50 Error.
It's probably the fuser bulb that has burned out. No bulb. No heat.so the printer is not able to get the required temrature to set.
This is the highest probability of what is wrong.
but the fuser unit is costly issue to replace in the laser printers.but it is worth reparing .and it will require a professional technician to do it.

thanks.

If the printer " the printer is fixing a temperature problem or something like that" , that means that the fuser must be replaced.

Here is the lamp: Apple Laser Writer Select 360 Fuser .

Hi!
On the bottom tray, turn printer on its side and tap the back of the tray with a rubber mallet. Once it gets out, lubricate the sides with some light oil or grease. You can only shut off the start up page with the Apple Utilities program. Can't do it through Mac. Turn it off and set the selector to 4. When you power it up, it will print a config page that tells you what all the switch selector settings do.
I believe it's 6

It may be due to some kind of un regulated voltage problem Or you just reinstall the drivers with the printer

This is a Circuit Board Problem. Would probably be better to get a New Printer than to try and Repair the old one. Drivers for this old of a Model will be VERY hard to find and the Updated Drivers will not be Compatible

OUR DYMO LABELWRITER TWIN TURBO JUST STOPPED PRINTING--

OK! The first time you tried to print ON THE LEFT SIDE, without anymore labels there, there was a "pending" error message in the print queue. This typically cuts off all furtther printing, as all subsequent requests are "behind" it in order or priority.

To fix this, open the Dymo Labelwriter "Printer" dialog box (double-click it on the tray or go to "start / control panel / printer and faxes" - then double-click on "DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo". Once open, you'll see a list of "failed" print requests. Somewhere in there you'll find the one with the "laserwriter output" out of paper message. Select that and cancel or delete it.

If this was the problem, all your attempts will now print (make sure you have enough postage paper in, and you'll have extras you can use, I'm sure!

Hope this helps.

PSC 2175 wont work with print server

Please make sure that the printer is working okay if directlysd connected to the MAC computer. You may try this as well. hope this helps

Description
LPR (line printer remote) is a platform independent printing protocol that is associate with TCP/IP. It works by using LPR client software that communicates to a server running LPR services.

In terms of PSU, LPR printing will become the basis for all network printing while Novell print queues are phased out. Therefore, all Macintosh, Windows, and Unix computers will be configured to print through LPR.

Requirements

· The name of LPR print queue. This can be found by searching the LPR printer database.

· LaserWriter print drivers version 8.5.1 or newer

· The Macintosh must have a working TCP/IP networking configuration. (If the Mac can browse the web then it's working.)

· a server running LPR services or a printer that supports LPR printing. Most HP LaserJet printers support LPR. However, only the following LaserWriters support LPR printing:

- LaserWriter 8500
- LaserWriter 16/600 PS
- LaserWriter 12/640 PS
- Color LaserWriter 12/600 PS
- Color LaserWriter 12/660 PS Procedure

1.Open up the Applications folder from the OS X menu.
2.Open up the Utilities folder
3.Now open up the Print Center
4.If you have no printers installed you will see the following screen. Click on Add.
5.On the following screen, select LPR printing.
6.Now enter printhost.oit.pdx.edu for the LPR Printer's address.
7.Uncheck Use Default Queue on Server option and enter the queue name of the printer.
8.Select the printer model.
9.The completed settings should be similar to the following:
(LPR Printer’s address is the ip of our PRINTSERVER)
10.Click on Add
11.Your printer has successfully been installed. Test the printer by printing something to it.

Won't print tabloid paper

I had this problem a couple of years back and took the printer to a service company. They replaced the paper pickup rollers and I have not had the problem since. Other problems, yes, but not that problem.

Laserwriter 12/640 PS

hello the printer paper pick-up rollers are bad. this why you caanotuse the pick tray. the solution now is to set the printer to default and clear allstuff off memory. read the instruction below: LaserWriter 12/640 PS: IBM PC or Compatible Troubleshooting This article explains IBM PC or Compatible Troubleshooting. A message on the screen says the printer can't print. If you get such a message, try the following steps. Make sure that the printer is turned on. Check the network or parallel cables. Make sure that the PostScript printer driver has been installed. Nothing is printed; no paper comes out of the printer. If you don't get any response from the printer when you try to print a document, try the following steps: Check the Installed Printers list to see that your printer is selected. Try printing the document again, but choose Download PostScript Error Handling in the Printer Setup PostScript Options dialog box. Check the Paper Out light. If it is on, add paper and replace the paper cassette. If it is blinking, make sure the paper cassette is securely in place. Check for a paper jam. Check the printer cables. Check the position of the port communication switch. The port may have been turned off or the Interpreter settings may not be correct. Reset the communications settings to their factory default values by setting the communication switch to the Reset (out) position. Turn the printer off and back on again. Set the communication switch to the Normal (in) position. Turn the printer off and back on. Check the startup page. Reinstall the printer driver. For Windows 95 users, check the following additional item: Open the Printer folder, select the printer, and click Properties. click the PostScript tab and click the Advanced button. Make sure that ASCII data and "Send CTRL+D after job" are selected. For Windows 3.1 users, check the following additional item: Open the Printer Control panel, select the printer, and choose Setup. Select the PostScript tab in the Properties dialog box. Make sure that Protocol Options is set to Default if using the parallel port, or None if printing via NetWare. Sometimes Printing the First Page Takes Longer than I Expect The LaserWriter 12/640 PS automatically goes into an energy-saving mode after it's been idle for a while. When you print while it's in this mode, the printer takes about a minute to warm up before it can print the first page. The printer is properly connected and configured, but printing is garbled or displays unwanted characters. Check the communication switch and make sure that the Interpreter is set to the correct value. If you are printing a PostScript document, the Interpreter mode should be PostScript or AutoSelect.
