Question about Kenmore Magic Blue 24195 Bagged Canister Vacuum

Open Question

Magic blue canister lid won't close, no suction

I have checked all areas for any kind of clogs and there does not appear to be anything obstructing the flow of air. However, the cover for the bag does not close securely. I think the cover must close securely in order to have full suction.

SOURCE: red light on top is on

If you have something like a metal ball, drop it down one end of the hose to see if it comes out the other side. The hose, wands or the inlet in the power head, if any of these have a clog, that red light comes on and suction is low.

Model 116 hose clog?
Posted by rfrazelle on Jun 23, 2008
My old canister model 116 followed with numbers 2839580 marked Kenmore 3.9 with power-mate, worked fine until the bag got overly full. I have changed the bag, cleaned the filter, and removed a nasty hair/fur/dust clog :-p from the lower metal tube of the power mate. It now has very weak suction and won't pick up anything. I suspect a clog in the grey plastic flexible tubing attached to the canister but cannot get it apart. Advice?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Kenmore 22313 Bagged Canister Vacuum. The best way to find a clog in an electric hose is to use a steel ball or a large marble to place inside the hose and to let it so threw as far as it can to determine where the hose clog is. Once you have determined where the hose clog is then you can use a small end of a broom handle of take an old wire coat hanger and place a hook on the end and try to pull the clog out of the electric hose – the electric hose is very expensive so try not to damage the hose in any way, shape or form. Or another way is that id you have another canister vacuum you can try to pull the clog apart by using two vacuums turned on and running. If you are successful then run the round marble or steel ball thru the hose again and the clog should be cleared.

SOURCE: vacuum not picking up

At the top of your wand, do you have a plastic swivel that cover a hole in the wand? This is for when you are cleaning curtains, and if that is open, or cracked you will loose suction there... also check your hose for cracks, or breaks. If it were in the shop I would put a gauge on it... normal suction is about 80-95 inches of water lift at the end of the hose. Once you have check each section of the hose, and wand, check the housing for cracks, a missing gasket (Very Good Reason For Lack Of Suction) As to your Filter, how long have you used that one filter, you can clean them for a while, but once a paper filter gets full of FINE dust you won't get it all out, you will have to replace the filter itself at that point. I hope this was helpful.

Nothing going into dirt canister

Is there suction at the hose? If not it is either blocked or the suction fan is broken. If there is, then there is a blockage in the pickup section, something is lodged across the channel after the brushes and before the place where the hose plugs in.

I think there is a safety switch to prevent it from running with the canister out so hard to check for suction at the top of the motor/suction fan. Make sure nothing is over that part under the canister too! If you can figure out how to bypass the safety switch (if there is one), you should have good suction where the canister sets on top of the motor base.

My Miele S3141 canister began acting strange this morning. No suction...so I took off the hose and checked for blockage, (nothing). Now I can't get the hose back on the canister. It just slips ar

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

Popped the lid open to change vacuum cleaner bag...now lid won't close. It's stuck at 90 degree angle. Is a button to release it?

Hi bndennis,

Please check the spring on your lid, it may be keeping the door open. Miele vacuum cleaners mainly use a spring concept for keeping lids open - merely pushing it down will lock it at the bottom.

Kind Regards :-)

Vacuum shrinks, power is still on but no suction

perhaps there is something stuck in the vacuum. Look where the hose fits in. There is obvioulsy no blockage in the hose because you have suction. Do the power brushes spin on the vacuum?? Take the bag off, and inspect the area the bag fits in for blockage.

I have lost suction.....what do I do? -with the vacuum and the hose!

Its okay to unscrew where the hose is connect to the area close to the bottom, where the hose bends. That is where there is usually a ball of hair, dust, and whatever. Pull the hair ball out and also clean the roller.

My dyson seems to have lost suction?

If the usual clog clearing and filter cleaning doesn;t work-> I love the Dyson (DC07), but after 7 or 8 years it lost suction and needed some attention beyond filter cleaning. After much online research I found the few bits of advice that for me were the holy grail. After all of the standard stuff, clear clogs, clean filters etc..... In this order: 1) Remove & empty the canister, ***important****-leave the canister bottom lid open. 2) remove the three star screws at the top of the canister. It'll take a bit of pressure to pull the top up, there's a rubber seal. When you pull it up there will be a rod running down into the canister, leave it be, just pull up the top high enough to clear out any debris. 3) Put the top back on aligning the screws, when you lower it make sure the bottom of the rod engages with the hole at the bottom center of the canister, this is why you left the bottom lid open. Put the three star screws back in. 4) Turn the canister upside down, lid open, and keeping in mind this is thin plastic, gently tug upwards on the four fins that surround the bottom rubber seal. This part is held in by friction, so work your way around the four fins gently pulling until you work the ring they're connected to free. This will give you access to the inside of the canister. 5) remove the round perforated section by tugging upwards on it, set it aside with the fin part. 6) Take the canister to a laundry tub or large sink and holding it bottom up fill it with hot/warm water. Grasping the center section shake it vigorously and turn it upside down while shaking and a bunch of sh*t will come out. Repeat several times. 7) Dry thoroughly, you might use a hairdryer held to the center tube, but only if you can switch off the heat and use air only. Make sure its 200% dry, water will kill your machine 8) clean and replace the round perforated section 9) replace the fin section, I'd suggest pulling the round rubber part off of the fin part and setting it in place on the canister first, then follow with the plastic fin part. If you don't do it this way the rubber won't seat properly and the bottom lid won't close. 10) Close the lid, replace the canister, and staaaaaart suckin like it's brand new.

Dirt Devil Upright Bagless Vibe Vacuum no longer sucks

Sounds like there's a clog in the long hose that connects to the dirt canister. Remove the hose completely and check for clogs. There is a blue plastic piece that the hose is attached to. You can remove it by taking out the two screws in the back, and the four screws behind the dirt canister. Once those are removed, the hose comes away from the vacuum with the blue plastic piece attached. That should allow you to check for clogs. If necessary, take the hose outside or a place that is well lit, so you can visually verify the absence of clogs.

You have probably closed it by now :-) but when this happened to us we found that if we opened the tool compartment on the lid, the main lid then closed on the bag with a tiny bit of jiggling around. I don't know why, but this worked.
