Switch monitors between a inspiron 1100 & lattitude d600??

Ok my laptop is an inspiron 1100 and the monitor is smashed, I have a lattitude d600 that was given to me for parts. The monitor size appears to be the same, does any one know if these are compatible? If so, how do I go about doing this without causing any more harm to my pc?

Thanks

Im not sure if the're compatible. The're the same display type ( TFT active matrix) but that would also depend on your video card. Your best bet is to buy an external 15" lcd monitor as you can find one for under $100.

Hello trying to connect dell lattitude d600 to TV not getting active screen

Make sure the external port you are trying to hook up to (I am assuming it's the vga port (blue one)) is hooked up and that you have selected the pc or vga input on the tv. Then go into display properties and select to enable that monitor on you dekstop (you can extend it or mirror it you will see options) There is also a hotkey combination that does this (FN + F8)

I-INC monitor to use with my Dell Laptop, no signal to monitor?

When Windows logo disappear on the I-INC, do you still see it on the Laptop monitor?

All laptops have function keys to switch the screen between the external monitor (I-INC) and laptop monitor. On your laptop, it is Fn+F8 key. Press them once and wait for 3 seconds, it will switch the image between 2 monitors (external monitor ONLY, laptop monitor ONLY, and both).

During start-up, do not close the laptop cover. Because it may put your laptop into a stand-by mode and turn off the screen. You need to modify this Power Option setting within the Control Panel.

Monitor Display on TV

Try the following:
Power up the projector first. With the laptop hooked up but not powered on once projector is warming up begin booting laptop. If there is still no display once its projector is fully warmed up and laptop booted you can try using the (fn) key with the laptop monitor switching function key usually F4 which switches the display monitor to show on external, external and laptop or just laptop. If this all fails try changing resolution of laptop to something that might be more projector friendly.
Let me know how you go.

Inspriron 1100

laptops are very specific about what you can replace parts with.
Take it back to where you bought it and ask to exchange for a 14 "
If you want to see a bigger picture on that laptop the only way is to plug in an external monitor; in the back there should be a plug for an external monitor. Plug this in to any computer monitor. You will have to adjust the resolution.

Laptop monitor has a big black spot

If it is actually booting, then you should hear some beeps as it starts, if there are actual problems with the system &/or hard drive.. You need to count the beeps & report them here, so we can decide what the problem is.. If the system is starting up ok & it's a screen related fault, the easiest way to test is to connect an external monitor, via the external monitor port. Most laptops have them. In fact I know the Dell 1100 does. Once you have connected the monitor, there is a sequence of keys on the keyboard to press, to switch to the external monitor. This will prove where the problem is..

However, I have some sad news for you.. Apparently there is a law suit against Dell (Class Action in fact) for overheating CPUs.

I think your 'video' problem is most likely because of that, then a faulty screen. There is a rather complicated procedure for fixing the problem here:
http://www.danandsherree.com/2005/04/02/our_dell_inspiron_11.php

This something you should really think about doing, if it's already not too late. I know it looks complicated, but if you know someone who knows how to use tools, it should be done.

Also, if you want to join the class action.. Here it is:
http://www.lieffcabraser.com/dell-inspiron-3.htm

Lots of luck with all this. Feel free to talk if you need help.

Any of the system LEDs come on when you turn it on? Can you hear the hard drive spin up? What was the original problem that lead you to clean the laptop fan? Please post the answers and any other pertinent information and we?ll start up.
