Class 2 Serial Data Line
The class 2 serial data line on this vehicle is a star configuration. The following modules communicate on the class 2 serial data line:
• Audio Amplifier, w/UQ7 and Y91
• Body Control Module (BCM)
• CD Changer (CDX), w/U1S and Y91
• Digital Radio Receiver (DRR), w/U2K or U2L
• Driver Door Module (DDM)
• Driver Seat Module (DSM), w/AN3
• Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
• Electronic Suspension Control (ESC) Module, w/Z55
• Front Passenger Door Module (FPDM)

• Transfer Case Shift Control Module (TCSCM), w/NP1/NP8
• Vehicle Communication Interface Module (OnStar), w/UE1
• Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Module, w/VD1
The class 2 serial data line allows a scan tool to communicate with these modules for testing purposes, checking for DTCs, and to activate/enable/disable functions. These class 2 serial data circuits are bused together via three splice packs and DLC:

Speakercraft Vital 1250 Class D amplifier

The Vital 1250 is a class D amplifier designed to deliver 170watts per channel (x12) at 4 ohms impedence.

There is however a number of these which are starting to come through with amplifier modules that fail.

There are 6 stereo class D modules using the TDA8970 design.

In breif the issues are down to the transformer secondary windings delivering slightly over spec voltage to the modules. Over time with the audio sense active this initial pulse from the transformer at power up sees off the amplifier chip and in many cases damages the PCB links between the double sided print making it impossible to remedy the exsisting module, so replacement is the only option.

The transformer on this unit is unique to this model and give 6 pairs of outputs for the 6 modules supplying 2x 29V AC which when converted to DC is around 41Vdc to each module, this can surge up on power on for a split second.

The TDA8970 is designed to take an absolute maximum of 39V and there is little or no protection on the output stage to stop a DC output occuring on the speaker outputs.

My therory is that this will be only the case for UK owners on a 240v mains supply as the tollerance may be acceptable for USA 110V users.

I have repaired these units by replacing all 6 modules with better units that have additional output protection between the TDA8970 and the speaker outputs. also adding resistors to the supply rails to help bring them in line with the correct tolerance and give longer life.

I am an engineer at MusicView Services and we speacialise in high end audio products and profesional music sound equipment.

I hope this helps someone with this amp, these problem will be specific to this model and should not be considered to relate to anything other than the Vital 1250.

Trying to install a aftermarket radio in my 2004 Oldsmobile Alero I wired color it won't come on

You wired color ? Hooking up an aftermarket radio on your vehicle requires a special interface module , that may not be the name it's called . You better check at a stereo shop that installs radios . Your vehicles radio is connected on what is referred to as class 2 serial data communication network .
Class 2 Serial Data Link
The following modules use the class 2 serial data link to communicate with each other:
The body control module (BCM)

The digital radio receiver (DRR)

The electronic brake control module (EBCM)

The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)

The powertrain control module (PCM)

The radio

The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD)

The class 2 serial data link also allows a scan tool to communicate with the above modules for diagnostic and testing purposes.
The class 2 serial data link on this vehicle is configured in a star pattern. There is no redundant path for the serial data to flow through. If a class 2 serial data circuit develops an open condition, the module connected by that circuit will not be able to communicate.
If not hooked up right the vehicle may not even start .

The class 2 serial data line on this vehicle is a star configuration. The following modules communicate on the class 2 serial data line:
The body control module (BCM)

The digital radio reciever

The driver door module (DDM)

The electronic brake control module (EBCM)

The front passenger door module (FPDM)

The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)

The instrument panel cluster (IPC)

The memory seat module (MSM)

The powertrain control module (PCM)

The radio

The radio amplifier

The rear seat audio (RSA) controller

The rear seat entertainment (RSE) assembly w/U42

The rear wheel steering control module

The remote playback device-CD player w/U1S

The transfer case shift control module

The transmission control module (TCM) w/Allison Transmission

The theft deterrent control module

The vehicle communication interface module (VCIM) w/UE1

The way to find the drain on the battery is to do a Parasitic Draw Test ! I'll send a link for Eric the car guy !

I found it at:

Encompass & HBF Electronics . This part is quickly falling off the radar and many places list it as NLA (no longer available), meaning they are no longer being produced. When they're gone - they're gone. Buy one if you want it while you can.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Laptop randomly shuts down

Random shutdowns can be hardware or software related. General advice is as follows:
Go to and download the latest BIOS Flash, Video Driver and audio driver for your system and install them, once installed and rebooted see if the issue is resolved.
If not, start, run MSCONFIG, edit the entries in the startup group disabling all except antivirus entries, reboot and see if any change.
If issue no longer occurs, then you can add items back one at a time until you isolate items that cause the issue.
If the software editing has had no effect, try ram modules individually (System will operate on one) and see if issue is isolated to one module or slot.
