Question about Samsung HLN567W 56" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Samsung HLN567W My TV keeps turning itself on and off. I called a recommended TV repair company. THey took the TV away and said that it needs a new lamp (that's expected), but it also needs some kind of board? They want to charge me $450 after I have already paid them $65 to just check it out. Is this worth it or should I look into a new one? Thanks

Re: Samsung HLN567W

That depends... If the cabinet is in good shape and you're otherwise happy with the unit obviously YES it's worth it... But let me preface that with these thoughts. What board is it that they want to replace? Get a part number from them before you make your decision... Was the Lamp out and that's why it needed to be replaced? How much did they charge for the lamp? Lamps are not cheap items by themselves. For that unit I found that Herman/Panson has about the best price. And last time I checked they wanted about $159.00 for the lamp that fits this unit. After you get the part number for the board goto Vance Baldwin logon as a guest and select parts search on the left. Enter the part number and see what price comes up and you do the math with what they're charging... Remember that price is just to buy it not ship it too so they might be bit higher... If it's more than double the answers easy, tell them you'll supply the board and order it... That way you'll be a little more at ease with the repair. And again, yes I think it's probably worth repairing considering the above. Good Luck Bill

Have Samsung HLN567W and recently started having

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Trying to turn on tv and no picture. bought new

Rulds2008 is probably right. I had the same problem, but have no TV repair shop near me. So since I have experience fixing computers, I decided to repair the TV myself. I initially repaired the Lamp, but the TV still flashed all three lights. Called Samsung and they told me that I might need to replace the ballast, but it would be best to bring it to a repair shop. The repair shop offered to come out and look at it for $150 or bring it in for $120, even though they were about 30 mins away. Ordered both parts on and got them in three days. Still had the three flashing lights. Took apart the entire TV (googled it on youtube) and vacuumed and dusted the TV and took apart the color wheel (about 20-30 mins). It was completed busted. Found out that if the color wheel is broken, it will not send a signal to the ballast to tell it to start up and power the lamp. So if you have replaced the lamp and/ or the ballast and it does not light up, it is more than likely that it is your color wheel (buy it on ebay or amazon, got it in three days versus a 3-4 week back order on company sites). Also, make sure the power switch on back is being pushed upwards and not downwards or the TV also will not start. Total parts cost me ($400) versus having someone else fix it and charge me double with labor and parts. TV is better than ever. Hope this helps.

Samsung 61 after 20 mins turns off not a cooling problem checked

It could be a issue with the ballast try to check if you have a buzzing sound. if it does is most likely a issue with the ballast (only if sound cames near the lamp) you can check that just follow the cables that are connected to the lamp, take out the back cover of tv, and keep pushing the switch cover (if not tv will not turn ON). and check if that sound comes from the only board connected to lamp. if it does, you are going to need a ballast.

TV turns off..lamp light flashs

I have one of these. It sounds like your projection light bulb has burned out & it needs to be replaced. Last time I checked (2 years ago), they were about $200. They are not hard to change if you are handy. Follow the directions, do NOT touch the bulb with your bare hands, use gloves or the oil from your hand will cause it to burn out prematurely. If you are not handy, call for a repair person.

Samsung tv hln567w

This was a $4000 TV 5 years ago. I own one, and it is still a very good TV. The biggest thing that can go wrong (and is worth repairing) is the light bulb can go out & it costs about $200 to replace. If anything else major goes out, it is probable better replaced than repaired.
