Question about Dishwashers

Loud Whirring Noises

We bought a new KitchenAid under the counter dishwasher and it is 3 years and 2 months old. It was quiet when new and it has been making whirring noises for about 2 months. It doesn't appear to be a chopper issue, because it makes the same noises each time we run it, about 5 times a week. We had an older "noisy" model for about 20 years, and the only thing to go bad on that one was the racks started to wear out and rust in the inside. That one always sounded like a jet airplane...this one is starting to sound that way and getting louder. We changed to different cycles and it makes no difference. What can I do, besides calling a service tech (like the manual says I should). I'm handy and I installed it. I just need some direction on what to do. Please help.

OK, I see it and am trying to remove the cover of the chopper. Got the 3 of the screws out and theres one under the lower arm which I cant seem to disconnect, any more advice/help?

OK, got all covers off and now see the looks clean, but should there still be water covering more than half the blade with the DW off??

OK, used sponge to get all the water out and cleaned out any gunk and whatever I could see. I'm going to put it back together and run it, and see what happens. If theres still noise, can you tell me about the seals, motor assy, and the implellear? Should this be happening to a new DW under normal use in just over 3 years?

    Thanks for your help. Ken

OK, thanks.....I'll have to put it back together anyway, may as well do it first be running. Is the new seal/impellar kit the next route to take to find/eliminate the noise? About how much this cost?

OK, its back together and running......and unfortunately...still noisy. Thanks for your help. I now know much more than I did before I started this email. I guess that seal/impellar kit is the next route? I'm gonig to call it a night.

Very possible that it is indeed something stuck in the chopper assemble, remove the lower wash arm, from ther youll remove 4-5 torx15- screws and then under there you find another torx 15 screw , after removng the screw you can pry up hte cover form the right side and reveal the chopper assembly, i would refrain form removing the chopper if at all possible, its kinda a pain in the rear to put back in, buit you can cean any junk out if ness.

yea, thereass always going to be some water left in unit, never gonna spit it all out.chck with a flashlight thought, ive seen littlew pices of glass as well,i guess itsalso possible that the main seals have given way, and that would cause a leak(slioght " under the motore assy, and the implellear may be"spinning in place causing noise.

seen it happen , you can actually run the d/w without putting back to gether to hear it, as far as the seals ,theres an impellar rebuild kit, youll need to remov eth motor assy, a 3/8 bolt locks into place from behind housung,(uninstalleing it will make it very appaernt, then the motor slips out, and the new seal/impellar kit can be installed. part number 8193951

My whirlpool dishwasher is quiet exept for loud clicking noise evry 10 min. during every cycle

Not enough information for me to accurately troubleshoot it, however, it's under warranty. Call up the store you purchased it from and schedule an appliance repairman to come out and troubleshoot it for you.

My 6 year old Whirlpool dishwasher is loud

This is a bad wash pump. Looking at about $175 for just the sump assembly. You could do it yourself, but unit would need to be uninstalled.

Our Quiet Series 300 Maytag Dishwasher is LOUD

few things move on these but the jets and the discharge pump. Are there rotating jets that are removable, if so remove them and clean them it might just be dirt. if you cant find the fault then yes! a repair man could sort it out.

Makes growling noises throughout the cycle.

HI. here are the most common issues that will cause a noise during the wash.

* Check the spray arm for damage and obstructions
* Check the inlet filter screens
* Test the water inlet valve(see below for test procedure)
* Check the motor and mounts- The motor may e loose or one of the mounts may have separated form the housing. this will cause mis-alignment.
* Check the fan motor and blade
* Check the drain for obstructions

If all checks out above, the culprit will be a cracked pump impeller. this will occur if the drive stud becomes unstable, allowing the impeller to partially separate form the motor spin drive stud. this will cause the impeller to rub or grind during the wash cycle. If this is the case, there are impeller repair kits available for purchase that will correct this issue.

Kitchenaid Whisper Quiet + dishwasher making loud humming noise

Very likely pump motor shaft seal leaks water into bearing casing buildup of rust and consequently noise. I just replaced $112 worth of pump assy and it's back to normal. I would also buy repair manual for $10 on-line to be sure how to disassemble the sump to get to the pump.

Whirpool quiet partner dishwasher seems to have no power

Ok there is a thermal fuse mounted on the control board that shuts down when it gets too hot. Did you run a sanitize cycle? Even if customers dont use the sani cycle which i recommend the fuse may open due to poor wire connections. The new fuse kit comes with a new harness and new connectors. Check the old fuse to be sure its bad. Dont remove the connectors from the new switch at all - dont disturb them and they will work better.
