Preheat issue with a new kenmore electric range

I recently replaced a kenmore range with another kenmore model # 790.96214. I am amazed at how long this range takes to heat up. I almost spend more time preheating this oven thatn I do cooking in it...is this normal?? For example it takes 20 minutes to get to 375 and nearly a hald an hour (okay, 26 minutes) to get to 425....my old oven never took this long. Is this the way this is supposed to operate?? I'm ready to send this baby back. I've had it 3 weeks on Friday....HELP!

Modle 790.96342501 takes 24 minutes to come to 400 degrees. If you remove the bottom oven element cover pan, it take only 7 minutes. Get no satisfation from Sears on issue. State the difference between old ovens and new, is that new only use oven burner to preheat, while old oven oven used both the broiler and oven elements. SO quess we are stuck with time!!

Some of the newer ranges only pre-heat using one element. this gives them a better energy saving rating

Times quoted seem about right and don't suppose your old oven was much different. element ratings don't vary much for same size ovens

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error E0-F3 means oven temperature sensor failure and to resolve this the oven temperature sensor should be replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Preheat issue with a new kenmore electric range

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Preheat taking long time

If your oven has the hidden bake element then it is probably working properly. A standard oven with an exposed bake element will usually take about 12-15 minutes to preheat. The hidden element models take a little longer but they usually heat a little more evenly.
Post back if you have any more questions.
