I'm trying to help my elderly neighbor with her TV. She said that she turned it off by the button on top of the unit, and when she came back a little while later it wouldn't turn back on. The power light on the front of the TV is red (I'm not sure if it is always red or if it is suppose to change colors when the TV is on and she can't remember). I have checked all the connections, unplugged the power cord from the back and waited 5 minutes before reconnecting and have tried to turn it on both manually and with the remote. I don't know what else to try, so any advise would be appreciated!

RCA are beautiful televisons, what is happening is that when the faulty fan that cools down the processor stops working, your processor over heats and a temperature gage inside reconizes this and shuts down the television. unlike some other models that i choose to remain nameless
*cough sony cough cough* where you need to replace the t.v,
RCA has a safty feature that allows the t.v to shut down with out it doing any harm. Ok folks, this is the easyest answer that i am going to ever give anyone.
All you need to do is Replace the FAN! that fan that cools down the processor to allow the fast movements to give the vibrant pictures in stunning accurate pixle compounds. it will cost about $50 for the fan and $200 for the guy/girl to install it.
So there you are a complex problem with a simple answer. you are one lucky person, you choose the right television the only factory defect was the fan. your t.v should last 15years without any serious problems.
I hope this has helped you folks. i am called the flat pannel Guru in my buisness.

It can be due to unstable DC power from the power supply due to bad caps, or bad main board (I had to replace my main board, and later on the inverter boards). You may want to think about putting money into this TV.

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV
up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors.
Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although
were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of
preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected
due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Hope this helps
