That's unusual but let's start at the top. Can you boot into Safe Mode? This will load the bare minimum the computer needs to start up. From a powered off state, tap the F8 button repeatedly as it starts up. If that is successful (and I'm not sure either way), the computer display will be in a low resolution so don't worry about the way the display looks.
Go to My Computer and then your hard drive which is usually C. Right click it and choose Properties and see how much space is left. Blue is used. Magenta is empty. We're hoping to see some magenta color. If there is little to no magenta, look for the Disc Cleanup button. Click it and let the computer do its thing. After it has finished, check all the boxes except Compress blah, blah. This will take a bit of time.
Let me know your results either way. I'll monitor this thread for awhile.

The Master Boot Record is corrupted so it cannot boot to operating system. Load your Windows CD and let it run, it will look like it is loading but it will eventually stop and ask if you want to continue or repair. Choose repair. That will fix it and then restart your computer.

Acer aspire 1800 running very slow. Can I improve it's performance?

FIXING A SLOW COMPUTER
A slow computer could be caused by a number of things - 1. Insufficient RAM (memory) - if your computer has less than 512Mb of RAM then increase it to at least 1Gb of RAM. 2. Registry problems - clean and repair the registry, it will contain unused registry keys. Use programs such as Registry Mechanic, Microsoft RegClean etc. 3. Uninstall/remove unused programs, this will also free up hard disk space. 4. Not enough hard disk space - swap file space may need to be increased if Windows hasn't been configured to manage it. 5. Install latest Windows updates. 6. Update virus definition files and scan computer for viruses, Trojans, malware etc. 7. Clear the Internet cache for faster browsing. 8. Hard disk maintenance is required at least once a month to keep it functioning efficiently. Run the following programs - Disk Cleanup - removes temporary files that are no longer used and to recovers hard disk space. Disk Defragmenter to make fragmented files into contiguous files and therefore the hard disk access is faster.

My acer aspire 5100 says its very low on disc space in C drive and now my email wont function. When I go to control panel programs and features it says that there are 1.77GB of programs installed but the C...

The simplest solution is to run Disk Cleanup as follows....
1. click start then hi-light All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click on Disk Cleanup
2. wait while Disk Cleanup calculates how much space you will be able to free on ACER (C:)
3. in the Disk Cleanup for ACER (C:) under Files to delete:
4. click to set the check-boxes of the groups of files you wish to delete
5. at bottom of the list is the Total amount of disk space you gain
6. click OK button and on Disk Cleanup for ACER (C:) pop-up, click the Yes button
7. redo the preceding, clicking on the More Options tab to free more disk space from other areas.

Hi,

It appears that the computer is infected with virus and may need full system recovery. You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key
& keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on
the computer.

You can also create a set to Recovery disk from the recovery partition, to do so
Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Click Create Factory Default Disk, if you receive any error code or unable to burn the disk, please contact Acer Technical
support at 1 800 816 2237 and order for an Recovery Disk.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

The database seems to be overloaded while rebuilding the files info and playlists.
See the answer for "Not enough space for MusicDB" :

For the c100 series connect the player to the computer how to delete files see:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/41

When linked to the computer there are 2 different connection modes possible:
  • MSC mode seeing the player as a removable disk using Windows Explorer.
  • MTP mode seeing the Sansa player as a Media device using software like Windows Media Player.
For "cleaning up" your database check both lists. How to switch to MSC / MTP mode:

It sounds like a virus or spyware corrupted both your windows restore points and your partition...Do you have the discs that came with your system? I am afraid you'll have to manually restore.

Screen dull & automatically goes into hybernate

The dim screen is going to be either the lcd or inverter. As far as constantly going into hibernation mode. go into power options and make sure where it says turn off monitor and turn off hard drive are set to never. If that doesn't work then that mean you might have a virus, trojan, etc on the computer.

The computer needs maintenance periodically just like a car needs servicing. The computer generates temporary files when it is running and these consume hard disk space if they are not removed, also these files will slow down your computer.
To service your computer you should at lease once a month do a Disk Cleanup and a Defrag.
The Recycle bin should be emptied periodically.

To do a Disk Cleanup Click on My Computer, then right click on the C Drive, then click on Properties, then Disk Cleanup, then tick all the boxes to recover the hard disk space. (This process could take a few hours depending when it was last done and the size of the hard disk).

To do a Defrag, click on Programs, click on Accessories, then System Tools, then Defrag. then select the C Drive, then start the Defrag.

Again this will take a long time, you may want to start these processes overnight, don't stop them let them run till they finish. The next time you run them, it will not take as long.

Need to free up disk space on my acer aspire 5050

Allenu,
Has your laptop been working fine otherwise -- I mean, before the low disk space problems? If so, then I would suggest clearing out your Windows Update files, first. They are located in the C:\WINDOWS\ folder. For the most part, the filenames will begin and end with "$" (EX: $NtUninstallKB887472$).

If you have rebooted within the last few days (MS updates came out last Tuesday) and haven't seen any problems, then it should be safe to delete ALL of the $xxxxxx$ files in the C:\WINDOWS folder. If you have not rebooted or if you've had other problems, let's go another route. Reply back and let me know... and we'll go from there.

If this does not solve the problem, please don't rate the answer. I have other ideas, if we need to proceed in another direction.
Regards,
Char1ieJ

I have a acer aspire 5050 laptop/notebook and everytime I try to watch a video on youtube or just serach the internet, it's slow and the wors, "low on disk space" pop up. I click the clean disk...

Acer partition thir drives as standard install.....open my computer and you should see a C drive and drive called data (probably E drive)...when the C drive is low on space windows doesn´t have enough room for a swap file and really slows up......move some of your less used files from My Documents to the Data drive by cuttting and pasting......Make sure you leave at least 700mb free on your C drive so windows can work normally
Also go into internet options in control panel in the general tab under browsing history click setting....where it says disk space to use lower the value to around 300mb....click ok and close window....this should free up a bit more disk space

Regards
