We just purchased a new Di1610p a few months ago. The toner cartridge is already empty (not a good sign, as we don't use it that much), but bought two new toner cartridges from tonermax.com. They look identical to the one that came with the machine, down to the same stickers on the outside, model numbers, etc, but when they are installed, the machine says "Incorrect T/C" and won't do anything. We put the old one back in and it works fine (other than almost being empty).

I would not advise you to refill a toner cartridge becausethe toner powder is very fine and you do not want to breath in this tonerpowder. When the toner cartridge is exhausted or empty then theprinter will not be able to print further documents or the prints will be veryfaint. You may be able to print a few more pages by removing thetoner cartridge and shaking the toner cartridge in a horizontal position a fewtimes and then placing it back into the printer. This will give you an opportunity to print a few more pages and giveyou time to purchase a new toner cartridge for your printer. A cheaperalternative is to purchase a re-manufactured toner cartridge for your modelprinter.A re-manufactured printer cartridge also replaces worn partsas well as refilling with toner powder.
You printer has run out of toner, you need to purchase a new toner cartridge or a re-charged toner cartridge. Re-charged toner cartridges are cheaper that a new one. You can get a few more prints out of your empty toner cartridge by removing the toner cartridge out of the printer and shake it, don't tilt it on the end, just shake it in a horizontal position and then put it back inside the printer. You should be able to get several more printer pages.
I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge? Please consider the following: If you are using a refilled or third party cartridges that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges. They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors. If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges Don
You need to make sure that all sticker removed from the ink and that the vent are clear…some of the issue may cause the printer to give wrong reading especially if you touched the ink sensors or got ink around the housing from outside, as far as the level if you ran the alignment or self-cleaning that use lots of ink too
....let me know if that work for you and please do not forget to rate my service so I am able to continue providing same...god bless

Print a Supplies Status page to see the actual pages printed...
To print the Supplies Status page from the printer, on the printer control panel, select
Reports Menu, Supplies Status, and then Print Supplies Status page.
If the page count from the Supplies Status page indicates that the toner should not be in need of replacement then you have a bad cartridge. Actually, the cartridge is probably fine but the chip on the cartridge has got a problem. Return the cartridge to O.D. and get another one. Unfortunately, chips that don't work properly in not all that unusual so HP has a pretty easy return policy.
are the new ones original toners ? if not, then you have to buy a new original or working toners, because, its not recomended to refill toners, but if you want, then you can refill them only about 1-2 times.
