It has Parallel ATA

PATA or also generally known as IDE,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

1) Harddrive:
101311 - Western Digital, 200-GB, 7200RPM, PATA harddrive,

2) Motherboard:
105553 FIC KTBC51G

Product Views; F - Primary IDE Connector,

Left side of motherboard, near the black long Ram Memory slots.
This is where the Harddrive plugs in.

Product Views; E - Secondary IDE Connector;

Near the black long Ram Memory slots, and next to the blue Primary IDE Connector.

This is Serial ATA, or also known as SATA,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

Uses this style of SATA data cable, and connector on motherboard,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_ports.jpg

(NOTE* Color does NOT matter for cable connector.
Color really doesn't matter, for a SATA connector on the motherboard, either.

You are supposed to plug the Primary SATA harddrive, into the SATA 1 connector, on the motherboard.
The beauty of SATA is, that you can plug into any Ol' SATA connector on the motherboard, that you want to.

BIOS will find the harddrive with the Operating System on it, and will find all the other SATA devices plugged into the motherboard, too )

You do NOT have SATA.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. I don't have plans to fix the emachines T5026. In my estimation it is not worth the time or trouble. I do plan on using the hard drive only to recover data from it. The emachines by the way tries to power up but cycles on and off over and over when pressing the power on button. I don't believe it is the power switch I rather believe it is the power supply but thanks again for your detailed instructions. I will let you know what success I have with installing the hard drive in the gateway machine. Regards. Andy "

I was not very clear about what I want to do. I have an Emachines T5026 that will not power up. I took the hard drive out of this machine (It is a western digital WD1600 SATA hard drive. It connects with a serial ATA cable. IThe drive has power connectors for botyh 4 prong as well as stndara sata power connector. I noticed the mother board in the gateway GT4016 has two ATA connectors designed to connect with serial ATA cable. The hard drive has an operating system and boot secto on it as it was the primary hard drive in the Emachines T5026. I need to know what I need to do to install this drive in the GT4016 machine. Can the standar 4 plug power corde used or do I need to get a converter. Can I plug the drive into the ATA connectors on the motherboard and what do I need to do to ensure the current hard disk is selected for booting up and loading windows.

GOING with the screnario you have just stated; NOT the solution to the problem. This is after.....A) IF you have a SATA harddrive, that has provisions for both a 4-pin Peripheral power cable, AND a SATA power cable; ONLY use a SATA power cable! Using both will BURN up the harddrive. In some cases not right away, but DOES eventually happen. B) The eMachines T5026 Desktop PC uses an Intel D915GAG motherboard;http://www.ascendtech.us/gateway-augsbur... Scroll down to the Item/Description chart, below the motherboard photo. L - indicates the Parallel ATA connector on the motherboard. Also known as IDE. (PATA) IF, you do NOT have a SATA harddrive that is good, THEN use an IDE (PATA) harddrive; on the connector. Do NOT hook up a CD/DVD drive ALSO. Slows the computer down, and also may make it so BIOS doesn't see the Harddrive. Doesn't see the drive with the Operating System on it. Be advised. NOW,........to the REAL problem...............Making a statement such as, "I have an eMachines T5026 that will not power up.", denotes, you press the Powert On button, and.........nada! Nothing. This would mean checking the Power Supply first, plus; when having a problem with a Desktop PC the FIRST thing to check is the Power Supply. It, and the computer is dirty inside; are the two most reasons for desktop computer failure. I would suggest perform the simple procedure; of bypassing the Power On switch; AT the 24-pin ATX main power cable's -> connector;http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnect... If the Power Supply comes on; you have a bad Power On switch. IF the Power Supply does NOT come on; you have a bad Power Supply. No if's, and's, or but's about it. The Green wire you see going into the BACK of the connector, is the Soft Power On wire. ALL -> of the Black wires are Ground wires. The Green wire is briefly touched to ANY Black wire. Does NOT involve cutting on the insulation of the wires.

A jumper wire is used to Briefly connect the Green wire, to ANY Black wire. (The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch ) The preferred jumper wire is a straightened out paper clip, bent into a U-shape. The top of the U is wrapped a few times with black plastic electrical tape. This taped area is for your fingers, and thumb to hold onto. Turn the U upside down, and it is the 'legs' that you are going to use. The U-shaped jumper wire goes down into the Back of the connector. The back is where the wires go in. The 24-pin ATX main power cable is to be plugged into the motherboard, as shwon in the photo to the Right; in the Playtool link. One leg of the U-shaped jumper wire goes down RIGHT NEXT TO the insulation of the Green wire. Has to slide down into the socket pretty far, as it has to touch a metal terminal, at the end of the wire. (All wires end in a metal terminal,http://www.molex.com/molex/products/data... The other leg goes down into ANY socket hole with a Black wire. There are Black wires close by the Green wire. The contact made with the jumper wire is no more than 2 seconds. The Soft Power On wire carries 5 Volts DC. In comparison two D cell falshlight batteries produce 3 Volts DC. HOWEVER, as electricity does; there may be a Spark. You may wish to wear a glove on the jumper wire hand. Secondly; If the Power Supply does run; and your statement was Windows wasn't loading, know this; A Power Supply with a weak voltage power rail, will not have enough power to turn the Processor on. Just LED lights, and maybe Fans. 1) If ALL of the LED's (Lights) were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power. 2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power. 3) A typical processor can use from 51 to 125 Watts of power. Just depends on what Processor it is. According to this review, an Intel Pentium 4, Model 519. (3.06GHz, 1024KB L-2 Cache),http://www.premiumgeeks.com/desktop/emac... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Int... (Scroll down. J or K? Dunno ) Up To 84 Watts of power. ,

What does the Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard look like? (Remember; FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions BEFORE reaching into your unplugged from power, computer) eMachines are a budget computer. (Nothing wrong with that) As such the two components that are of low quality, is the Power Supply, and Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard.http://capacitorlab.com/visible-failures... http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/6... To recover data from the harddrive you can also use an inexpensive external enclosure. Harddrives are measured in width. 2-1/2 inches for a laptop harddrive; 3.5 inches for a desktop computer harddrive. Yours is SATA. You need a 3.5 SATA external enclosure. One example,http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/... (Has USB cable that plugs into any available USB port on a working computer)

In your case ATA refers to the hard drive type that connects to IDE or Enhaned IDE via a ribbon cable (now called PATA).
If you are looking for the new SATA hard drives, the answer is NO.

Will a msi kt4v motherboard work in a gateway gt4016 desktop

The Gateway GT4016 is a 6-Bay Micro uBTX Case and the MSI KT4V is a ATX motherboard. Therefore the Motherboard will NOT fit in the gateway Case.

I have a GT4016 Gateway Desktop. I want to purchase a 2Terra Internal Hard Drive. Would this be a Sata or Pata Drive

If the computer is already open its easy to tell if you have SATA or PATA capabilites. Most modern computers have SATA and maybe one PATA. An SATA plug looks like a sideways L. The PATA ports have a couple rows of pins and require a cable ribbon. If you have both kinds of ports you should go with the SATA because this has a much higher bandwith (1.5 Gbps I think)

GT4016 freshly reformatted with recovery CD. No drivers. No connection (to internet). Where do I find the driver (to download and burn to CD) enabling my GT4016 to connect through ethernet?

Here is a link to the drivers you need:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1008842

Be sure to download the audio, video, motherboard and modem drivers. Just put them on a san disk or equivalent media storage device. When you have installed the drivers check the device manager to see if anything else is missing (a yellow question mark next to a device name). Hope you get fixed.
