Hi i dont know if you found your solution but you can solve this on your own.
on the front there is two buttons you have to press and hold in standby mode. The "Level settings"button and the "speaker 1" button. when you do that you reset the firmware.

ERROR #005 harmankardon hk 990 check R40 (psu pcb) 5 volt rail fusable resistor .if open IC SRC 4392 ( u9 ) is faulty.remove ic then check sound.Sound Input on analog direct path

If SRC 4392 is faulty, how can I fix it? Is it a simple fix? My HK990 seems to have a faulty SRC 4392 as it doesn't have sound even in processor bypass using direct path for any input. It also throws error 005 when powering on if a digital input is connected. Otherwise there is no error but no sound either.

When I say no error, all buttons work as expected - I can hear the sound of relays when engaging source selection, speaker selection etc. But is no sound. I tried multiple inputs including processor bypass.

If you hear 1 click when you first push the power button, followed by another click, about 5-20 seconds later, your amplifiers are probably not bad. As said previously, follow the reset, or "Return to factory defaults; in your owner's manual. That may resolve your issue if you inadvertently pressed an incorrect button. I would advise you not to attempt to change any components, nor even take the cover off, as this exposes your unit to ESD damage(electrostatic discharge). Harman Kardon AVR 120 volume goes up all by itself. I turn it down, it goes up again. over and over ... then it stops doing it. Is it the optical cable? COMCAST?

After setting volume remove all remotes from the room. It is possible that a button is staying activated.

All in the setup of the TV if you are using the "net" option that allows for communication between devices on the HDMI connection turn off as a possibility.

Last resort is the volume control motor driven knob on receiver see if receiver is defective try with other inputs such as radio etc.

Disconnect all inputs and see if volume increases?

Hope this helps?

I have a Harman Kardon HK990 which throws an error #005 if I switch it on with a digital input connected. If digital input is not connected, it turns on without any error and all buttons work as expec

If you had a bad amplifier, as suggested, the unit would most likely have a condition known as DC Offset. In this case, the amp would immediately shut off. As you said, the amp stays on, but you have no sound. First thing I suggest, turn the unit off. Listen carefully to the top of the amp. When you first push the power button, you should immediately hear one click, followed by a second click, within 5-20 seconds. If you hear that second click, you amp is likely not bad. If you don't, then you do most likely have a blown amp, with engages the DC Protection circuit to the microprocessor(computer within your unit).

Next step is to open your owner's manual. In there, you will find a procedure called, "Return to factory reset, or default". Follow that procedure, to reset the unit back to the factory settings. Those inputs are assignable, meaning that you can make certain inputs, analog or digital. You may have set one wrong by mistake. The reset will fix that. If you need more assistance, or would like to inquire about a repair, please visit my website at, Audioserviceclinic.com. By the way, I worked for HK, JBL and Infinity. Thank you.

1.Is the fault caused by an optical or coaxial input or both?

2. Have you tried a Firmware Reset? (press "Level Settings" button & "Speaker 1" together.

3.Do you have a Service Manual (I have pdf!)

It runs so hot why?

Possibly lack of ventilation or excessive volume through difficult speaker loads.

http://media.onecall.com/Image_Products/Harman%20Kardon/harman-kardon-hk990.pdf

See page 6.

IMPORTANT: When connecting two pairs of speakers, determine the impedance of each pair

by looking on the back of the speakers, in your owner's manual, or by contacting your dealer or manufacturer.

You can listen to two pairs of speakers at the same time ONLY if the impedance of EACH speaker is NOT LESS THAN 8 Ohms.

WARNING: Do not play sets of speakers simultaneously except as recommended above.
Amplifier may overheat.

All of a sudden our receiver stopped working. The display looks fine, but there is no sound.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Source Selection, Mute, Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

If you have an aha moment turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

Harman Kardon AVR210 - got power, lights, FM/AM stations, but no sound ?

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

Ipod to harman/kardon

Using a headphone to RCA adaptor plug the headphone jack into the headphone connector of the Ipod. Then plug the RCA jacks into any available Analogue input on the receiver. Increase the volume on the Ipod to 80% then adjust the receiver's volume according.

Or get a dock that will allow remote control and charging, such as Roth, DLO or Wadia.

No sound,no video, front panel display will display.harman kardon

Check your audio settings on the main menu of the receiver. The audio input should be set to "auto" Next, make sure you don't have the unit in "6 channel input" mode or "direct" mode. This is usually a small button on the front panel. If you check all this and you still have a problem, post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot some more. Hope this helps

Harmon kardon 745 displays "unlock" no sound for tv or movies

I also had this UNLOCK message on my Harman Cardon AVR 130.
The reason for this error was - in a hurry I've plugged the optical input into optical OUT! Double check that your connections in the back are correct and hopefully it fixes your problem.

Cheers,
Sergey
