Question about Acer Aspire T160-US321H (AST160-U-S321H) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Want to upgrade graphics

I have an acer AST160-US321H. I have a 320gig SATA HD, and 4 gigs of ram. now i want video. I see a EVGA 01G-P3-1302-LR (1gig pci exp card for $35 ) and a GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I (512MB pci exp for 25). Both of these would likely blow the doors off what i currently get. But i want to know if these are good choices. Neither mention power supply minimuns. So what do you think?

Your right, both cards will be quite an inprovement in graphics. Your weak link is going to be the CPU, Your specs say AMD Semperon 3200 1.8GHz. Your power supply is a 300w, right? The EVGA 01G-P3-1302-LR has a MIN. 350w. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=01G-P3-1302-LR&seeReview=true, you should be OK. The GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I Min. 300w. PCIE 2.0 :http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2924#sp Both sound good for you , I have both ATI/AMD and Nvidia in laptops and desktops. I like Nvidia. It's your choise, of course, Both are a lot of bang for the bucks. They do get Hot, so keep them as cool as you can. Both have fans! If the graphics card starts giving you little issues, upgrade the PSU to say 400w. Remember, every device you add requires a bit more power.Enjoy!

Sounds like you are doing a rebuild. Perhaps a used CPU? I have bought used CPUs ,to upgrade, and had good luck. They can be very reasonable.

SOURCE: Increase Memory.

Good luck. Window will only recognize 3.2 gigs if yours is a 32 bit system. Acer tech is not existent as far as I can tell.

SOURCE: upgrading graphics card

Connect the monitor to the onboard video connector first. then
you need to disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS save the setting and shutdown. Then connect the monitor to the GeForce video connector and boot up then you will get a video signal on the GeForce video card.

SOURCE: New graphics card

You can buy an Nvidia 8800GTS with 320MB for $180, and a 9600 woth 512MB for 130. If I were you I'd pick either of these, they're both good cards for a good price.

SOURCE: Upgrading my Acer Aspire M1641 Desktop graphics card

The motherboard will support any PCI Express x16 or PCI Express 2.0 x16 video cards. Your main concern should be with the power supply since it is either a 300w or 250w.

Here is a pretty good choice for your price range:
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=8&l3=725&l4=0&model=2328&modelmenu=1

Input your info here to see if you need a power supply upgrade.
http://support.asus.com/PowerSupplyCalculator/PSCalculator.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

A little money for system memory would be good if you have less than 1 Gig.
You can test it here:
http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx

If you are saving money by not buying a motherboard and want to spend it (which is what I would do), I would put the money into a the video card and power supply.
Like this:
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=8&l3=726&l4=0&model=2705&modelmenu=1

And this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netzteil-Corsair-620W-ATX-2-2/dp/B000KJNK8U/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248740669&sr=1-10

I do not know the dimensions of the Aspire Case, so one thing to keep in mind is the dimensions of the card and the power supply. Make sure they will fit before buying.

If you start replacing motherboards and such, you might as well just go with a whole new system. A new motherboard, new CPU, new memory, new graphics, new power supply, fast hard drives, new case.

SOURCE: Problem for Acer Aspire M1641- PC Desktop

It is not the monitor that is your problem. Your monitor is fine, it is a software problem with your CPU/Computer. You need to put your operating cd in the cd tray, boot computer in this order...cd rom first, then hard drive, etc. Your operating sysytem is corupt/missing some files, it won't boot up thru the hard drive, because it can't, it need to boot from the cd, where the files are that it needs.

I have a Acer AX1200-U1510A AM2+ Motherboard and i would like to upgrade the processor, ihave 4 gigs of mem and a 1 gig Gigabyte Gt 610 graphics card. I only have a 240 watt power supply what processo

Should work with a processor of the same socket type. I'd seriously upgrade the psu myself. Personally I'd upgrade the motherboard and processor to a quad core, and get the fastest ram, look at ebuyer.com, you can buy a bundle upgrade package for less than you may think. :)

Check your installed ram sticks. (one at a time) the card is compatible with your board But the problem may be with your operating system and not the hardware. on start, press F8 and select "Last known good config" if the system still fails you may have a duff card.

What is the fastest chip I can use in a aCER TI60-US321H

The best way of knowing for sure is to find the Socket that your computer mainboard uses. The socket information can be found either on the CPU socket or written on the mainboard nearby. Acer normally uses Intel. Therefore could be either, Socket 478, 775. I think it will be 775 as 478 is a bit old.

If it says Core 2 Duo then you know for certain that it is Socket 775. I think 3.2GHz or there abouts is the max it goes to.

Just a thought, instead of upgrading, sell your PC and then buy another one. I myself would go for either an Intel i3/i5 or an AMD Phenom 2 X2 560 or 565.

All the best!

Boot on windows XP when you see the message press F6 to install 3rd party SCSI drivers then hit F6, download a driver for your SATA drive and put it on flashdrive or diskette, After loading setup files the system file explorer pops up to manually locate the driver for your SATA device.

Graphics upgrade

As long as you have a open vga, vga e, or pci slot in your computer you should be able to install a new video card. the Acer website says your motherboard supports up two gigs of ram, I am not sure how much ram you are running but if it is under 1 gig I would consider upgrading that also. as far as a graphics card goes get one that has at least 512 mb of its own ram so it dosent pull from your system ram as I am sure your current on-board card is doing. Another couple of hints are: if you are running Windows Vista you they call for 1 gig ram for optimal performance, also it is very important that you un-install any graphics drivers before you install new ones, and when you install the new card read the instructions completely before you do anything.
hope this helps
