How do I remove a black bar on the right side of my screen?

I tried the format button but do not have H-Fill as an option which I believe will solve it.

It is a Panasonic TH-42PX80U. I am having Satellite TV installed in a few days and I am hoping this resolves the problem. Today I have a limited signal (plan) from my cable provider and it is an analog signal. The new connection will be true HD into a HD DVR and then into my TV. Right now it is literally just a cable out of wall going directly into my set. Problem is black bar (4.5" wide) on the right side of screen. During some broadcasts, I have bars on upper and lower (horizontal) as well. Thanks for your help!

What kind of tv is it, and what is the model number?

if the black bar is only on some of the chanels then it cant be a problem with the tv, the tv cant just take a couple of chanels and mess them up, it has to be the way the station is sending the signal out

CHANGING THE SCREEN ASPECT RATIO: ( From Manual )
The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Panoramic, and Normal. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the screen aspect ratio:
1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight the Wide icon. Press OK.
3. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight your desired screen mode and press OK:
• Normal preserves the content's original aspect ratio. Since the 4:3 aspect ratio is not large enough to fill the TV's screen, black bars are added to the left and right of the display image.
• Wide stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio picture to the edges of the screen. Since the picture is being stretched, the display image may appear distorted. If the program is already formatted for widescreen viewing (1.85:1 or 2.35:1), then black bars will appear on the top and bottom of the display image.
• Zoom expands images with black bars to fit the screen.
• Panoramic expands the display image to fill the screen.
images may appear wider than intended.
If you are watching widescreen (1.85:1 or 2.35:1) content, black bars will still appear on the top and bottom of the display image. This option is only available when the TV is displaying a 480i/480p source.

2 vertical bars on the right side of screen, thay are black, has picture and sound but no thing in the bars

That's because your aspect ratio is 4:3. To get the picture to fill the whole screen change the aspect ratio to 16:9. You can do this by pressing the aspect button on the remote (right above the channel + button) and changing it to different sizes such as cinema, panorama, and full. Try all the options and see which one like best.

How to zoom in on info

When TVs first appeared, they had an picture ratio of 4:3, which matched that of most movie screens at the time. Terrified of losing their business, movie studios struck back with "widescreen" films using 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 ratios. When widescreen TVs started appearing, they emulated those same ratios, but many TV shows (and some movies) were still in 4:3---and we were eventually left with a bit of a mess. Canny manufacturers, including LG, have solved the problem by allowing you to adjust the picture ratio on the TV to fit the program you're watching. If it's not set properly, however, your image will look distorted or cut off. A quick bit of troubleshooting can fix the problem easily.

  1. Press the "Menu" button on the remote and scroll down to the "Option" title (it should be second from the bottom ). Then select "Aspect Ratio." You should see a list of ratio options. You simply need to pick the one which fits the show you're watching.
  2. Choose the 4:3 ratio for older movies and TV programs. You should see a pair of bars on the left and right side of the screen. (That's okay: the bars keep the program in the same proportion in which it was filmed.)
  3. Select the 16:9 ratio for widescreen movies and for more recent shows to match their longer width. For some movies, you may see black bars and the top and bottom of the screen. Again, that allows the movie to be shown in the manner it was filmed.
  4. Pick "Set By Program" to automatically switch the LG TV between 4:3 and 16:9 to match whatever show is on at the time.
  5. Select "Horizon" to horizontally expand the image onscreen. It will fill the whole screen---eliminating the black bars to the left and the right---but it may look distorted.
  6. Use the "Zoom 1" option to zoom the image forward. That will eliminate the black bars at the top or the bottom of the screen, though you will cut off the edges of the image.
  7. Pick the "Zoom 2" button to select a midway point between "Horizon" and "Zoom 1." The picture is stretched, but not as much as with "Horizon," and fills the screen, but doesn't cut off as much as "Zoom 1."
  8. Use the "Cinema Zoom" button to enlarge the picture to fit the screen. This option allows you to adjust the proportion to your liking, rather than use the set proportions of the other aspect options.
  9. Exit the menu when you are done and watch your programming normally.

I have mistakenly formated my TDK 8GB TRANS-IT FLASHDRIVE and altough it is empty it looks only 9.95MB capacity. Any suggestion to solve this?

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it.
Try formatting using Disk manager.
Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

There is a black 2 1/2inch bar on leftside of screen how do i adjust is?

if your lucky it's just your H-center is off tilt. to check this Press the menu button on your monitor. scroll through the options till you see Horizontal-center option. select this setting and move the screen to the left. The entire screen should start shifting to the left and fill in the screen. now if you do this and you get a black bar on the right. Center the screen where you have the same amount of black on both sides of the screen. scroll through your menu till you see the H-size. increasing this will fill in the black area. Hope this helps.

Some stations do not come in full screen?

Not all programmes are broadcasted in a full screen format, they may show the programme with black bars on the top & bottom or left & right sides of the screen. If you have the TV in the Auto setting for the Aspect Ratio then the picture will be displayed in that size of format relative to the broadcast. If you want to fill the screen you can try a different Aspect Ratio to one that fills the screen to a wider image if available.

Black Bars each side of my new monitor wide screen

Right Click on an open spot on your desktop.

If your Operating System is Windows XP, choose Properties from the menu box that pops up when you right click.

A new window will open up. Click the Settings tab at the top right.
On this menu you should see a slider bar near the bottom left under "Screen Resolution". Left Click and hold the mouse button on the grey button and move it on the slider bar over to the right one spot. Then click the Apply button on the bottom right of the box. The screen may flicker for a second and your desktop will change size. If the screen covers the whole monitor and the black bars are gone, that may be the correct resolution. Click OK on the box that has a timer and is asking if you want to keep the screen that size. If the screen does not look correct, click No and you may need to slide the button one more spot over and try the next resolution and Apply until it looks correct.

Under the slider bar as you move it over a line at a time will be 2 numbers like this 1024 X 800, and when you move the bar over the numbers will change. I believe the optimal resolution setting numbers for the 20" monitor you have should be 1680 X 1050 for the widescreen. You may want to try that setting. If it looks too small, try sliding the bar to the left and try each resolution setting.

Here's a screetshot of what the Box with the slider bar looks like: http://technophobik.co.uk/vxp_control_panel/f007_settings.asp

If you have Windows Vista, (it is similiar to XP):

Click the Start Button and click Control Panel in the Start Menu
Click Appearance and Personalization in the new window that opens up.
Click Personalization, then click Display Settings at the bottom
A new box will pop up with the grey button on a slider bar near the bottom left under "Resolution" Slide the button to the right to the next line one spot over on the slider bar and then click the Apply button. The screen may flicker and change the size of your desktop. Click OK if the screen looks correct or click No if it doesn't look correct and try sliding the button over one more line.
