Question about Medea VideoRaid RT

1 Answer

Malfunctioning Medea RT 4/180 VideoRaid

Hi...I have a couple of Medea VideoRaids storing data from my Media 100 Video editing system. I lost "contact" with one a while ago. Looks like it might be in the RAID itself. The blue lights on the unit, while they're cycling on and off, one of five of the lights is cycling independently and the power light, rather than stay on, is also cycling on and off. Does this sound familiar at all??? Thanks
Wendy

    Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your description of "the power light, rather than stay on, is also cycling on and off" is indicative that the electronics/interface of the Medea VideoRaid is no longer recognizing the hard drive(s) installed inside (most likely), or the electronics/interface itself is faulty (least likely). You could try running a file recovery program/utility and see if files inside could be recovered (if needed) or run a partitioning/formatting utility. Otherwise it would be a hardware problem and of course would require the services of a qualified professional. If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), then you must have access to the service manual and/or the checklist/procedures. You have an advantage since there are other Medea VideoRaid readily available for you to compare performance, voltage checks and temporary donor of parts or test bed.

Check and perform preliminary visual or necessary inspection of the inside. Pls post back result(s) with photos if at all possible.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

My DVD-RW file is corrupt at a certain point in the file. How do i fix it

Sometimes these disks reach the end of their life after a couple of uses and can no longer erase/write. CDs and DVDs have a shelf life of about 10 years, but sometimes data can be lost in as little as 2 years. CDs and DVDs are best for storing music and video, where loss of data bits is not noticable. Back up critical data files in several media types (Hard disk, CD, DVD, Flash drive) to prevent loss.

Edit photographs video

In recent years, laptops have become almost as powerful as desktops. You don't have to remain stationary when doing things such as editing photos or video. You can take your project with you. With the right combination of laptop and video editing program, you can produce professional looking videos anywhere.

Make sure your laptop is capable. Editing video is both a processor and memory heavy process. If you have a slow processor and only the minimum amount of RAM required, your video editing software may run slowly. Also, make sure you have enough hard drive memory to store your clips and renders. Choose video editing software. Most computers today will have a program installed with the operating system, such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, but these tend to be basic. If you want something more advanced, consider purchasing it. Consumer grade video software runs as little as $50, while professional options such as Avid Media Composer can cost thousands of dollars. Become familiar with your software. Certain video editing programs have a higher learning curve than others. If you've chosen a professional grade video editing program, such as Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer, learning the program may be difficult, so you take a tutorial or read a manual to get acquainted with the various functions of the program. Capture your video. Connect your connection cable or SD card to your laptop. Open your video software and look for an option that says "Capture." The labeling may be different, depending on your software. For example, in Final Cut Pro, the option is "Log and Transfer." Capturing your raw footage imports it to the video editing software so it can be edited. Edit. Once you have captured your video, your clips should appear in your clip library. From there, you should be able to drag them onto the timeline, trim them, slow them down, add effects and manipulate them any way you want.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Recovery CD for Windows XP Media Center Edition has error on it...how can I get a new CD? I can't get it loaded...

HI there,

If you go to eBay and type "windows xp media center edition" into the search window, it will shunt you to a page where there is a full install retail disc there for sale now for $55 plus shipping.

If your machine is a Dell, they offer a little known "One Time Only" recovery media replaement for free. Go to this page and fill out the information and for your reason for the replacement choose "Missing/LosIf/Damaged media. If they write you that the machine is out of warranty, write back and explain that Dell has extended this courtesy for years and perhaps the agent should speak with his supervisor. This has worked for me 100% on at least 50 Dells I have repaired.

Medea VideoRaid RTR. Was initially set up on a win 98 or Win 2000 video editing machine(98 I think). PC long gone but still have the VideoRaid. I need to pull the files off it but cannot access it. It has...

try to hook it with a usb on xp...and if it doesnt appear on my computer ..run add new hardware from the control panel...do not let it run auto..but choose from a list ..and specify thats a storage device...for to not being seen with the wrong driver ...
no matter if it seen as ok or not ..probably needs formatting cause the previous was an elder OS ..so try just to right click on each drive and choose format ..it might work ..but you will be loosing any data-s on it ..
another way is to hook each hdd one by one on the internal ide or sata ....depending on the plug ...(if they are having another kinda connexion ..just get a Rack that will make it connectible ..
remember to change the jumper configuration if you use them as slave ...
they will work ok after you will format them one by one in NTFS (or fat 32) ..and hook them back in the tower...
it also may be problem that one of them is corrupted...and in this way you will be able to identify it ...if one is corrupt ..they all have trouble cause they are somehow in serial connection...and seen as one...
