This computer was so bad we had to Fdisk and Reinstall the system Many times before it finally took. The actual connection was in the .netframwork, I didn't think we needed it as I run Windows98 still, but XP needs it. It's running like a champ now. It had the virus Vundo-Virtumonde. Must have had if for sometime. Nothing would cure it, had to just Fdisk and reinstall, and that took redoing many times. That's one of the Nastiest virus' I've delt with.
Thank You for all the help.

We used the Vundofix but it was Too infected it wouldn't work. We ran the program many times and it found many infections, but when we restarted the machine again it would be infected again. We even installed the program from 3 different sites just to be sure. That's when we gave up. The only thing that did work was using the Restoral tools. Completely FDisking the machine and starting over, and we had to do it Many times for it to take. It took Hours.
This is someones elses computer who doesn't know much about them any way, and I've never heard of the ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew. I myself haven't had a problem and I'm sure it has something to do with haveing an old computer (W. 98SE) and the way it's configured.
So Hopefully people out there try not to get too discouraged there is a fix as long as you have your disks and are patient. The Vundofix should have worked, but this had to have been in there for almost a year as far as he could remember. Don't quote me on it but we think it was from Myspace, or a link. There was a background on there from a myspace site that you could Not get rid of. No mater what you did that picture stayed there. But it's gone now.

Wish I would have known that a few weeks ago. Luckily just installing the Netframe work did the trick.
    Thanks

Vundofix was the program you could have used to kill the virus.
Have you tried ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew yet???

To continue with your internet connection problem:
First go to start then settings then network connections open network connections, you should see an icon which say's
    "Local area connection"
This is to confirm that you actually have an internet connection of any type.
If you dont see any Local area connections, you must create one.

Ok,, so assuming you are operating WinXp

sometimes your IP settings can get messed up, so doing the following can resett them.
Go to "start" then "Run" in the screen which comes up,type in CMD and then "OK"
this will bring a Dos type screen, when you get here type in:
    ipconfig/release then enter.
you should see all of the settings change to zero's
Then type in (by just clicking in the dos screen) ipconfig/renew and then enter again.
This time you may have to wait for a few minutes for the settings to take place.
Make sure your computer is connected to your Hub/Router when you do this.
    If all is successful

I can not use the wireless connection because the code was changed now i dont know what to do

ok, so what type of router is it? Do you have other computers that connect to it with the new code?
If you can then you can run WirelessKeyView on the computer that works.
If there are no other computers that connect, then you will need to use a wired connection, then you can configure the router using the web admin tool.
First, connect your computer to an Ethernet wire. Connect the other end of the wire to the router, this will establish a wired connection. Open Task Manager([CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[ESC]). Then press File->New Task(run...). Type CMD and press enter. Then type the command IPCONFIG and press enter. You should get output like this: _1717.jpg Read the Default gateway number Highlighted in red in the picture. It should be 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x Open a Internet Explorer and type what you see at the default gateway field. From there your routers admin screen will load. you can change the key here.

II cannot share my internet through my Ethernet cable with my acer aspire one notebook. More specifically I can't share my connection with my playstation3. It obtains the ip address but fails to connect to...

The ip number needs to be in the same range as the router ie 192.168.xxx.xxx usually the third number is 1

the gateway needs to the the ip address of the router 192.168.xxx.xxx often the last two numbers are 1.1 or 0.1 though some routers are configured with different numbers

If there is a WEP key you must have that in there too

Also the DNS numbers needs to be the ones your ISP uses.

If it doesn't configure automatically try a manual setting.

If you still have a problem you can try putting the IP number of the PS3 in the DMZ of the router.

Aspire 5100 PC Notebook: How do i get my new Acer Laptop to connect to the ...

hi guest, welcome to the forum! Let me think why your laptop cannot access to internet during it's already connected to your router.

1) Because the connection is established --> Wireless is working properly
2) If you cannot access to Internet --> Access Restrictions is configured in Router.

How to configure?
1) Login to Router Administrator, you need to open a command line and use usage as ipconfig and you will see as the following

C:Documents and Settingssin.le>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Please open Internet Explorer with the address
http://Default Gateway ~ http://192.168.1.1

You need to know What is User name & Password to login, please configure "Access Restrictions" to allow access

I hope this is your case.

I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet either wirelessly or hard-wired. I have two other laptops, connected wirelessly, and a desktop connected via hardwire. It recognizes the router but says...

if you are trying through wireless, first unplug the wire from the laptop,

make sure that the wireless switch on your laptop is turned on.

click on start, control panel, network connections/network & internet/ Network and sharing center..

right click on wireless network connection Icon, if it says disable, it means it is enabled already.

then click on status..

from here the steps would differ from OS to OS

then click on Support tab (for XP)
check the address type, it should be "Assigned by DHCP"
and if you see the IP Address starts with 169., it is a bad IP and needs to disable the connection and enable it.

if the connection type is "Assigned Manually, right click on wireless network connection icon and click on properties and click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click on properties, in this window, check the option "Obtain IP Address Automatically from DHCP"

click ok and OK ..

again right click on the wireless network connection icon and click on view available networks... click on your router name and click on connect..

now check the functionality.

if you are using windows 7 or vista,

click on status, click on details for the IP Address..

We see DHCP Enabled as YES or NO instead of "Adress type"in XP

if it says no, it means it is assigned manually. to change to DHCP , right click on Wireless Icon, select properties, click on IPV4 IP address and click properties, then select obtain automatic..

then try again..

hope this works,

Once connected to the ethernet cable you might have to press the tiny reset button on the back of either your gateway, router, modem of whichever service you have(Cable,DSL)

Cant connect to the internet!!!

well first i can suggest trying to reinstall the drivers for the ethernet controller and the wireless card you are using. if that does not solve the problem, then are you subscribed to internet through cable, which is what your router connects to?

Internet suddenly not working

You can try to run a 'Winsock fix'
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
Sometimes internet settings just get messed up and this sets them to default.

I've personally also had a lot of problems with Norton. (The Symantec Corporate version is much better). If you are running Norton try their removal tool and see if you can connect after rebooting. Then reinstall your anti-virus software right away!
