My wife left the door open for an extended period of time. Meanwhile, I had the freezer very full which I thought was contributing to the high temp alarm. So, I emptied the freezer and tuned it to the coldest setting hoping I could get it to drop below the high temp threshold. The freezer now is staying cold enough to keep things frozen, but not getting cold enough to call it a deep freezer. I need some help. I'm planning to call local repairman if I can't get some tips for repair here. Thanks!!

I opened up the panel on the inside to view the coils and noticed a large amount of frost build up on the left side of the coils. I assume this is the entry point of the coolant. I let the frost melt and turned the freezer back on and am waiting to see what happens.

I think I need more freon, however I think it might be cheaper just to buy another freezer, am I thinking this through correctly?

Not normally,Make sure you door is sealing properly also check and make sur ethe evaporator fan is running when the freezer is in a cooling mode.you may need to remove the rear panel of the freezer and check for frost build up.if there is frost build up then defrost the evaporator with a blow dryer.
then check the continuity of the heating element and make sure it is in working order.

Frigidaire upright commercial freezer started a LOUD buzz and the second light was on at the bottom front..turned off..then back on one hour later,.still loud buzz,..any idea what s wrong ?

The green light should be a normal running light and the other one, either yellow or red(ish) should be a high temp alarm. Check the contents to make sure they are still reasonablly frozen and if not start finding the cause....Is the condensor fan motor running correctly? Is the condensor coil clean and free from dirt/lint/fuzz which serves to restrict the transfer of heat? Is there an excessive accumulation of ice build up indicating possibly a problem with the automatic defrost cycle?

Kenmore Frostless Upright freezer model# 23971. The alarm sounded, all contents in freezer is frozen solid. We turned the alarm off, but the red light continues to blink. How do you reset the alarm and stop the red light from flashing? It has been 3 days now and every time we have check to see if the contents has started to defrost, there is no signs of defrosting, everything inside of the freezer remains frozen solid.

The high temp light is on. What can I do to reset it? Everything seems frozen and fine in the frezzer

HIGH-TEMP ALARM SWITCH (SOME MODELS)
An audible
alarm will sound if the freezer temperature reaches
unsafe levels. The alarm operates on household electricity. If
the power
fails, the alarm will not perform.
An ON/OFF switch
allows the high temperature alarm to be
deactivated if desired. NOTE: You must open the
freezer door to
view the alarm switch. The
freezer is shipped with the switch in
the OFF position.
After the freezer has run longenough to
lower the temperature, you
may set the switch to the ON
position.
To activate the alarm, set the switch
to the ON position.
To deactivate the alarm, set the switch to the OFF position

i got this from the freezer manual from Kenmore hope this was helpful

The alarm light is flashing, the freezer seem to be working,

Most all cooling systems need to be in an ambient temp of about 60-65 degrees. If not, it needs a low ambient control. This helps keep the high side pressure high enough so you have the proper pressure drop accross the expansion device. This applies to coolers, freezers, a/c units, and so on. I also think, if it keeps things frozen like you want, where's the problem? You make have a control just acting stupid.

Kenmore Upright Freezer Model 253-9280810

is it possible the door has not been closed at some point?
If so they can build up with ice in the evaporator which the defrost system cannot handle....Try a manual defrost.
Depending on where the unit is installed high ambient temperature can drop the internal temp enough to set the alarm off though they will still freeze sufficiently
