The model number has more digits then that. Look inside the door area or on the back of the unit for the number.

OK, what does it do when it gets to the wash cycle?

  • Linda Gallegos Dec 02, 2012

It doesn't agitate. Doesn't move at all. Doesn't matter how big or small the load is.

OK, if the unit doesn't agitate but all the other cycles work you will need to replace the timer. Here is the part to order.http://bit.ly/YnPnJa

SOURCE: washer make a clicking noise

Zoobs, you could have something stuck under the agitator. The agitator will pull straight off. Grip it on each side and pull up hard, but don't hit yourself in the face. If that don't work, try slipping a belt under it and pull. Check for something caught under it. Another possibility could be the nylon suspension rod socket supports in the back. They will make a noise during agitation if they are dry. Put a little 3 in 1 oil to quite them down. Take the front panel off and check the pulley and belt, see if anything is out of whack. I also often find the motor support hitting the bottom panel during agitation making noise. Take the front panel off and observe during agitation. See if the support is striking the bottom. If so, just bend the bottom panel down. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Spin/Drain cycle...Kenmore 417.40042990 Front load belt drive washer.

ok two companies make kenmore you have a frigidaire model i gave you instructions for whirlpool heres frigidaire I think your on the right track but a couple of things you need to know first that model washer wont spin tiny loads or one articles of clothing it has a device in the motor called a tacho generator to balance if you have only a small load it cant sense the balance and most of the time will only rock back and forth second your pump is the most likely culprit if you look in side the washer you will see a seem in the tub next to that will be one of the washer tumblers take the screws out of that tumbler slide it forward there will be a hole there rotate the tub to your right and you will find the hole going down to the drain pump can check it there but i don't think you'll find any thing as that is a larger hole it think your drain pump is now if you have a shop vac this is time to vacuum the water of the tub and all the way down the drain hole for the next stage usally i tell customers to remove the drain hose from the stand pipe and vacuum the water out of the washer from the drain hose but because of the pillow this might not work in your case. Now remove the two screws on the front lower panel and pull the panel
in side you will see the drain pump if you did not have a shop vac go to the auto parts store and buy a pair of radiator hose clamps and clamp the hose line as close to the washer as possible.(but put down some towels as water always stays there) then pull the tub to pump hose by depressing the squeeze clamp(now while your at the auto parts id get a screw clamp to replace the spring clamp it makes putting the hose back on a lot easier)pull the hose off. Then pull the pump to drain hose off .Remove the two 5/16 in screws securing the pump to the washer base.Unplug the connector and remove the pump inspect the pump for foreign objects, broken or stripped impeller blades . if the impeller are stripped you will have to replace the pump then form the front of the washer take your finger and feel up in the large rubber hose for any thing in there the drain pump should turn pretty freely if nothing is restricting it

SOURCE: Agitator Not Working

My Hotpoint VBXR1090B top loading washing machine quit spinning during the rinse cycle and also quit agitating. The water filled up and drained just fine --no leaks.
Here's how I fixed it in 5-minutes.
Tools:

  1. Putty knife
  2. Nut driver - I used a multi-purpose screwdriver without any heads attached.
Procedure:
  1. Unplug washer from the electrical outlet for safety
  2. Release two spring clips holding the front panel on: Insert a putty knife 5" in from the side between the top and the front panel. Pull the front panel forwards.
  3. Unscrew 2 screws holding the top down.
  4. Lift top - it's somewhat hinged in the rear with three tabs inserted in control panel.
  5. The little red tab at the end of the lid switch should be between the lip of the opening and the top; not sitting on top of the lip as mine was.  It's thin enough steel to push it with your bare hands.
  6. Make sure when the lid closes it actually causes the switch to turn on. You should hear a click.
  7. Put everthing back together. Plug washer back in. Put your tools away.
  8. Voilà. Done. Easy.  Even a woman or a ****** could do it.

SOURCE: Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

Sounds like a cycle switch problem. The switch is not turning and making contact with the next cycle. It needs to be changed!

How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

Making an awful ratcheting noise during aggitation and spin cycles

Under the agitator there is a rachet mechanism that works the agitator. If it is stripped, it will skip until the next good tooth.. when it fails entirely the agitater will stop going back and forth. Its nylon and age along with overloading hastens its dearg.. If you can get the parts you can replace it yourself without difficulty. There is a single bolt in the center of the agitator top . Remove and loft agiyator straight up.

Water drains during spin cycle, but tub does not spin and appears to have dropped down. Machine does aggitate.

If you can move the tub by hand laterally - the rear main bearing has likely failed - or the drum rollers are worn.

Kenmore series 70 washer won't stop agitating when lid Is lifted.

I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.

To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.

To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!
