Is it possible that the TV just stops responding to any remote control?

I had a universal remote which had been working for 6 months or more. One day my Memorex MVT2135 TV/VCR just stopped responding. I mainly use the TV. (on/off, channel, volume. Nothing fancy) I purchased a Memorex remote from eBay. No response. I think this is the original model of remote that would have come with the unit when it was new. Is it possible that the TV is just not going to response to ANY remote control? If yes, is it fixable?

  • Judy Barry Jun 08, 2007

Yes, the buttons on the front of the TV work. I haven't used a tape in it yet; can't speak for that.

Until i get a remote working, I can't re-set the accepted TV stations, so it skips from 44 to 48 to 62 or so. I have a workaround (play a station or tape on another TV and pipe it to this one) but that's quirky.

    Sound familiar at all?

Does the TV work when you use the front panel buttons?

  • Anonymous Jun 13, 2007

Do a manual channel search, if that will not work, then the set will need another remote.

What must i do to start programming my remote to my tv

First look up your TV code in the manual (link below). Some TVs are manufactured by another company, so you can try codes for the manufacturer's TVs as well. Funai makes a number of brands (including Emerson); your TV manual may indicate the manufacturer.

Then turn on your TV, if possible. Then press and hold Set (just below the LED) until the LED blinks twice. Enter a four-digit code with less than 10 seconds between key presses. Press the Power button and check if the tv turns off (or on). If the TV does not respond, try a different code. When the TV responds, check if the other functions of the remote work.

One For All remote manuals and code lists are available here: http://www.oneforall.com/support/manual . Use the drop down menus to select Universal Remote and then the model. You may need to change the Region at the top of the page.

The direct link to the URC-1050 manual is: http://www.oneforall.com/uploads/support/71565305a95bc645c30a7af2b6994b71.pdf .

Please note that the manual for this remote has a copywrite date of 2002. Most universal remotes are limited to codes for devices released 6 months or more before the remote was programmed. If your TV is newer than your remote, you may need a new remote.

I hope this helps.

Codes won't work on my phillips magnavox tv

First what is the age of the remote relative to the TV? The codes are limited to those for devices released about 6 months before the remote was programmed. If this is the problem, then you may need a newer universal remote.

Next is the TV responding to any remote or button press? It's possible that the IR receiver has failed or the entire board has failed in the TV. (If the buttons work, it's just the IR receiver if the unit doesn't respond to any button presses.) For parts, try shopjimmy.com or partstore.com. You want parts that match the ones in the TV.

You can check if the remote works with a cell phone camera. Take a picture of the IR beam end of the remote when someone else presses the button. When you look at the resulting picture there will be light at the end of the remote.

I hope this helps.

I have a Philips CL043 universal remote. I can't find th tv code for a Westinghouse lcd tv.. can you help?

You can find codes for the remote here: http://www.urc.philips.com/ . Then look up the CL043 and click on the remote code finder. This is also called the SRU3004WM by Philips.

A Westinghouse TV should responds to one of the following codes: 0915, 0013, 1216, 0300 if the TV was released 6 months before the remote was programmed or earlier. (Whte Westinghouse codes are different.)

If those codes do not work, there is a manual code search option. With the TV on, press and hold Setup on the remote until the red indicator stays lit. Then press and release quickly the TV button on the remote (the LED will blink once). Then press the Channel Up button until the TV responds (up to 300 times). If you overshoot, press Channel Down to go back to the previous code. Press and release the Mute button to set the code. Check if the remote performs all the needed functions. If it doesn't, repeat the above steps to find another code.

I hope this helps.

(if the remote is older than the TV, you may need a newer universal remote.)

My original remote with this model stopped working several months ago.I bought a phillips universal remote and that worked fine for several months and that stopped working.I bought a new Phillips...

The first possibility is that the new remote control is a dud out of the box. It can happen. Another possibility is that the remote sensor in the TV has failed. Then the remote is transmitting, but it's not being picked up by the TV. (The lights are on but there's nobody home.) If you can, return the new remote to the store and exchange it. Then, if the set still doesn't respond, you'll need to replace the remote sensor.

Goog day. I have a Samsung LE40A559 LCD TV and about a week ago it stopped responding to the remote. Remote itself is working as when the TV is off and I push buttons on the remote the blue light on TV...

The flashing blue light shows that the TV is receiving I.R. from the remote but doesn't mean that the signal being received is recognized by the Samsung. If you have a "universal" remote then your TV code may need to be re-entered/reprogrammed...changing batteries in a "universal" will usually require it to be reprogrammed.

Also...because of the remotes construction (rubber membranes with carbon dots that short across PC traces) I've seen certain buttons stop working altogether.

LE26R74BDX TV Not responding to Remote

there is a easier way to check your remote.
Open your radio on AM frequencies, you don't need to be tuned just noise is perfect, then bring your remote near the antenna and press some button. You will ear the frequency in your radio. If it works this way but not on the TV make sure to press the TV button before using it (if the remote is universal).

Remotes no longer work

I had this exact same problem. After a week or so it started responding to the remote control again. Then after a couple of days it stopped responding. This problem came and went for about a month, then one day the entire TV went dead. When I powered it on, the green light appeared for 2 seconds followed by a sequence of 6 flashing red lights that repeated. I brought my set in to a repair shop and they replaced the power supply board. That fixed the problem and now the TV powers up and responds to the remote control again. Total charge was $250. That was very disappointing for a $1,500 TV that was only 18 months old. I'm going to let Philips know how disappointed I am in their product!
