The '?' on the monitor is because the computer can't find an operating system.
Start up from the OSX disc and run 'Disc Utility' from 'Utilities' on the toolbar.
Select the hard drive from the left hand box and run 'First Aid' to attempt repair.
If this fails you will need to replace the hard drive and reinstall OSX

Hello, I'v got a MacBook Air, and it won't turn on as it goes: on, the Apple logo shows, the waiting wheel spins and then turns off again, and keep doing this till i shut it down for good... it won't turn...

Try:

1. Turn your MacBook Air off by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
2. Hold down one of the Shift keys and press the power button for a few seconds. Keep holding the shift key for about 1/2 minute. This will start the machine in "Safe Mode." It will check to make sure there are no errors on your hard drive and do other tasks to hopefully fix your problem.
3. Once you see your Desktop (if you do), click the Apple menu and click "Shutdown".
4. Start the computer normally by holding down the power button for a couple seconds.

If this doesn't work, you may need to reinstall the operating system. On a MacBook Air, that's a bit more complicated. You'll need either the external DVD drive (an optional purchase for the Air) or another computer. Your computer manual explains how to install software on that other computer (may or may not be necessary) so that you can use that computer's DVD drive to put the disc in and reinstall Mac OS X operating system.

Good luck! Please let us know if you have further questions or problems.

I am trying to connect my macbook to a sharp LCD

Are you tyring to play something off your laptop onto your TV? If yes then what you can see right now( Bigger picture of your laptop) that is correct. For no sounds try plugging in the speakers into the laptop headphone jack directly and then see it that works. If it does then the dvi-hdmi conenctor might have gone bad and needs to be replaced.

If you have other queires please reply back to this thread.

Please rate if helpful.

Hi, I m a new user of apple mac book, I m trying to insert a disk in my dvd rom but still i am not able to open my dvd player. Can u help me that how will be open the dvd rom in apple mac book? means any...

Hi,
I would please like to tell you there is no button in MACBOOK to eject a tray as there is no tray.
You simply see a line on the right hand side of your laptop where you can insert a disc, u need to insert a disc into that part and when you insert it you will show you an icon on your desktop showing you the cd contents.
When you want to eject it keep in mind u need to click on the icon on your desktop and press the eject button or u can also use the keyboard and press the eject button, which will bring the disc out automatically.
Please do not worry try it, I'am sure it will work for you.
If there would be any problem and you need any help please do not hesitate to ask.
I'am also giving you a link to see the video of how to insert and eject the cd, please note this is the old model of the macbook, the only difference is that the drive is now located in the right hand side of the laptop, dont worry take a look.

Hello sarahscarah,

I've repaired a fair share of Macbooks with the same issue, but just to make sure it is what I think it is I'll need you to do a few things.

This issue is thought to be caused by a bent/warped ribbon cable that is located under the battery. This cable is what connects the trackpad and keyboard to the rest of your computer. To test if this is the problem do the following.

  1. Verify that an external keyboard and mouse will work with your Macbook when plugged in to a USB port.
  2. Connect your Macbook to your power adapter and plug into wall.
  3. Unlock your battery by turning the dial on the bottom of your Macbook with a coin.
  4. Remove the battery and set it aside.
  5. Press down on the exposed trackpad cable with your finger.
  6. While pressing down on this cable try typing on your Macbook's keyboard and moving the cursor with the trackpad.

If this works then you've solved it, you can place a piece of "Kapton Tape" over this cable to hold it down, but this is a temporary fix. You will probably need your trackpad and keyboard replaced. If your macbook is still under warranty take it to an Apple store, show them the problem and have it fixed or replaced. If its out of warranty you'll be looking at a $200-$300 repair to have the trackpad/keyboard replaced by a technician.

Here's a picture of the exposed trackpad cable for reference.

Hope this helps, if so please leave positive feedback. Thank you.

My macbook won't show color

i didn't think that was possible with the newer macbooks, even if a person wanted a black/white screen.. sounds like a hardware defect/malfunction without an easy user solution. i recommend taking it to an apple store to have it checked out, or using the hardware test if you have it, or a service estimate.

Macbook Won't Always Shut Down!

Click on the hard drive icon, then on Applications, then Disk Utilities. Select the hard drive, the click on repair. This will repair any issues with Mac OS.
If it does not, it may be a hardware problem. I just received mine from Apple repair. Mine would not come out of sleep.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
