make your the laptop is using mains power and not battery, and also make sure its not overheating (make sure hot air is able to flow out of the air vents in your laptop nice and strong) i say this as sometimes dust collects inside the vents and stops air flowinf very well and helps to overheat the system, then by the time your half way into an install its gotten hot enough to power-down to protect your hardware.
to try and remove dust, purchased a can of compressed air form a computer shop and blow it down the air vents of your laptop to clear any dust. Just make sure your laptop has been off for about a half hour to make sure its cool inside, because compressed air is very cold and if the laptop is still hot it will cause a sudden change in temperature and crack your motherboard.
After you do this and still have the same error, then the problem might be the disc you are using, even brand new just opened discs can have errors from time to time, all part of that mass-production process that is never 100% flawless.
Hope this helps :-)

Have you tried while in Windows, to use the Start Menu, find Acer on the All Programs list, and locate the recovery utility? I have an Acer laptop - an Aspire - and had to do exactly that. I used the built-in recovery routine on the Acer Laptop and was able to rebuild my laptop to the condition of when it just came out of the box, brand new.It will delete all your installations since you got it, applications and documents and photos, etc., will be gone, but your laptop will function as if brand new. Good luck with it. -a.

Mine will. Make sure your system requirements meet the minimum put out by Microsoft. I recommend using only the 32bit version. If it won't attempt to write to your hard drive, then you either have a bad copy of win7 or a bad hdd. My m285-e ran 7 like a champ and has great pen-touch support.
