This is a common problem with inkjets and is basically that the waste pads have reached a point the printer considers they need replacing.

You haven't specified which printer you have so it's difficult to be more specific as to your options but you can look up more on the problem here:

Bear in mind that's a commercial site (mine) but the information available is still useful in determining what options are available.

If your printer is one of the newest models (released in the last 9 - 12 months) then chances are it may have a drop out waste pad holder. Older models tend to have static pads that an external waste kit is an easier solution.

One thing to note... the error itself is based on an arbitrary algorithm in the printer firmware that's based on number of cartridge changes, head cleans and prints with an adjustment for time passed. Resetting it requires software (again the link above will help with what's available) but regardless of whether you deal with the physical waste ink or not the waste counter will not change until you reset it.

That should help at least explain what the problem is... if you want to provide more detail on your specific model I can be more detailed in terms of relevant information.

Whoops, just spotted it's in the Photo 1410 category (curse poor eyesight/attention!). On that basis there are copies of the Service utility available that will reset the counter or you can use the WICReset (with a key purchase). Unfortunately the 1410 is one of three models (1390, 1400 are the others) where some production runs of the printer included faulty firmware. As such the waste counter cannot be reset and a firmware update is required. This is a job for a service centre although I have seen copies of the necessary tool and firmware available on the net, albeit at around $50 or so... Hope that helps...

SOURCE: '01 install ink cartridges' displayed on

first of all, double check all the cartridges have been installed correctly.Press the On button to turn on the Epson Stylus CX, or (if already on) press the Setup button.

Select Maintenance and press OK.

Select Change Ink Cartridge and press OK.

Open the cartridge cover,Press down all the ink cartridges until they click into place to make sure they are properly seated.

Close the ink cartridge cover and press it until it clicks into place.Press OK to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes.

You see a message on the display screen when ink charging is finished

PLEASE NOTE; With the Epson Stylus CX series printers, when you change one ink cartridge, all of the ink cartridges need to be replaced with new ones.

For whatever reason, Epson has it setup so the printer will only operate with each ink cartridge starting at the same amount. So when one cartridge is replaced, all of the cartridges need to be replaced.

Its an R230and it says: Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documentation.

parts inside your printer indicates that you need to change the ink pad of your printer. for every epson printer they have a cycle of i think around 100,000 revolutions in the gears and then when it reaches its peak it automatically shuts down on the firmware thus indicating parts inside your printer is at the end of its service life... but it can be resetted back to its state by downloading the Ink Pad Reset counter.

you can download the INK PAD RESET COUNTER through this link install it then i suggest using the icon which will appear on the lower right hand side.

it represents a small printer. the link will instruct you on how to use it... have fun.

if it does not work then another mechanical issue might have occurred....

My Brother HL-2140 Went out in a storm. All three lights just keep blinking no matter what I do. Held down on the blue light button a number of time, restarted computer, turned off printer, reloaded ink...

You can find the usre's manual here:
1) If the LARGE BLUE BUTTON is blinking:
Data remaining in memory
There is remaining print data in the printer memory. If the Ready LED is blinking for
a long time and nothing has printed, press the Go button to print the remaining data
in the memory.
2) If the TONER LED is blinking:
Toner low
Indicates that the toner cartridge is nearly empty. Buy a new toner cartridge and have
it ready for when Toner life end is indicated.
The Toner LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds.
3) If the DRUM LED is blinking:
Drum life end soon
The drum unit is near the end of its life. We recommend that you get a new drum unit
to replace the current one. See Replacing the drum unit on page 69.
The Drum LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds.
4) If the RED ERROR LED is blinking:
Front cover is open
Close the front cover of the printer.
Fuser cover is open
Close the fuser cover located behind the back cover of the printer.
Paper jam
Clear the paper jam. See Paper jams and how to clear them on page 85. If the printer
does not start printing, press the Go button.
Memory full
The printer memory is full and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.
Print overrun
A print overrun occurred and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.

My Epson Stylus T10 Printer have a indicates, (Service Required):"Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documentation." then the two light (red &...

The waste ink pad needs to be replaced or cleaned AND the service software used to reset the internal counter. You cn download tthis online.

You have to dis-assemble the printer to get at the pad. You can clean the pad with agressive rinsing till it is a very light gray color. (A lot of ink will be flushed out!)

Reset the waste ink counter!
Assuming you have completed your modification you can reset your printers waste counter using this method (I did this and it worked on the CX6400) can't guarantee it works on all)
1. You will see big button on your printer like power on (this is on the left
2. side), black & white photocopy, color photocopy, and then the stop button (these are on the right side).
3. first turn off your printer
4. push the b/w + color + stop buttons together and hold
5. push the power on button and hold (so you'll now be holding down 4 buttons together)
6. Don't release all the buttons until you see the light indicator is blinking and then a message display on the lcd
7. release all the buttons
8. push the color button (once)
9. turn off the printer
10. turn it on again
After this one may need to reload the printer driver and locate the printer!
