Youll simply pull the plug to defrost that model, problerm is that there shouldnt be that much frost on it to defrost, thinkin you may have an issue withthe thermistore not turning the unit off

Where is the defrost timer / does my fridge even have one?

Most often the defrost thermostat fails there should be a diagram or small manual hidden under the kick panel or taped on the back of the refrigerator. I believe this model uses a computer to control all functions including defrost . There should be a way to run diagnostics on this to tell you your problem if you can find the hidden manual.

Marvel 6RFI, light on but unit won't run

Really...??

Second attempt Good thing I recon... I get pretty chatty (verbose).
(this IS the short story).

To me...
your primary focus should be on your DEFROST TIMER: Service #41004677 Marvel PN 42242037
(oddly: black in color... and expensive by a factor of at least 10.. from an identical FRIGIDAIRE timer in white (try 215846602 Defrost Timer).

Happily the MARVEL timer can be manually advanced...

Most of the time it directs all your power (besides he interior light) to your compressor... to generate Cold & Frost...

For small periods each day it switches off the compressor and energizes the defrost heater(s)... which are carefully controlled by defrost thermostats... typically not to exceed about 55° Fahrenheit

55° Fahrenheit... pretty tepid... and easy to miss
(compressor not powered).

If the inside is really HOT... the DEFOST THERMOSTAT is in a CLOSED failure state... (very unusual)... or your inside light is REMAINING on when the door is closed... That can generate an unbelievable amount of heat.

The DEFROST TIMER has a small ridged handle in the middle... which can be manually advanced... (carefully... those are LIVE electrical terminals... and can dispatch you with very little effort... from this veil of toil and sin... (kilt...dead!))

If you are real patient... you can put a small mark... or tape on it to see if it is turning... Yes... clockwise).

But first... your should look at it...
Make sure all the wires are appropriately seated on their respective terminals (4 in all).

Be safe... Be patient.

Big money can be saved by taking your pretty BLACK MARVEL to your parts purveyor... and settling for a more reliable, robust and way way cheaper FRIGIDAIRE DEFROST TIMER.

The typical schematic of your MARVEL shows your terminals.

Always
Always take pictures BEFORE disconnecting wires!!

Power can be directly applied to the compressor by means of disconnecting the input power and joining it to the compressor input lead... if it hasn't worked by this time... it is your issue!!

Consider a new refrigerator... and getting RICH selling your
black MARVEL DEFROST TIMER on eBay.

NB: New Marvel 6RFI are still for sale (cheap) on eBay (If your COMPRESSOR is toast!)

Good luck and happy hunting!!

I have an ice ball forming on back right of fridge. ANy idea why or what should be done?

You most likely have a problem with the defrost cycle. could be several things. Does it gurggle after you close the freezer door? No? Do you get a strong suction on the door immediately after opening the door? Longer than 30 seconds is not right. Defrost drain may be clogged. It drains defrosted water into the pan under the unit near the coil. Unplug with a light gauge wire and drain cleaner.

Drain may be clear, but heating coils may not be be working well enough. In a marvel of technology, a self defrosting fridge activates heating elements mounted on the cooling coils. A timer heats the elements hot enough to melt frost to water inside your freezer. Very efficient! This water runs out to a pan in the bottom and is evaporated.

Your water is not draining, clogging the drain, then backing up with every defrost cycle. check the drain. If clear, it is probably the circuit board controlling it.

Can Automatic Defrost be bypassed on Amana ATB1932MRW

Good day,
Not really effective. In the old days the coils were exposed and could be defrosted relatively quickly.
In a frost free machine the coils are located behind the rear wall of the freezer compartment. That compartment is well insulated and you have no practical way of accessing it.
The bottom line is manually defrosting the frost free
machine involves shutting the machine down completely for about 12 hours, with the freezer door left open. For most people that would cause a lot of food to be lost.

You have made an interesting point. Actually, it's kind of ludicrous to turn on high wattage electric heaters every 12 hours or so to gain automatic defrosting. But that's the world we live in.
Conventional defrost refrigerators are still made, but only come in very small sizes.

I am looking for a thermostat for my Marvel 61RF. The numbers on the existing thermostat are 083181M26. The thermostat fried and needs to be replaced. Can you send me a new thermostat for this unit? Thanx...

I don't recognize the number you have from the current stat but you can call the factory at 800-223-3900 for assistance. They will also sell direct to the public with major credit card. You will need the serial number of the unit so they can determine which thermostat you need. (it changed from thermobulb style to electronic with thermsitor in 2000-2001)

There are no buttons to defrost your freezer except the off button. The unit is a self defrost. If it is freezing up then one of the defrost components have malfunctioned.

HOTPOINT FFA70 FRIDGE FREEZER

I had this problem and it was fixed relatively easily. Get everything out of your fridge freezer and switch it off overnight to allow it to defrost.

In the bottom freezer compartment there is a panel behind the draws which you can remove but you will need a special tool from a DIY shop. Its like an allen key, but with a star shaped end.

When I got the panel off I found that the filament was covered thick with ice even though it had been off for hours. No wonder it wasn't working properly. I melted this with a hairdryer. You want to take your time with this as you could easily damage the freezer if you try chipping the ice out.

Freezer works perfectly now and is very quiet.
