SOURCE: change the language
For an ipod nano:
select the fourth set of words on the main screen which takes you to settings. scroll all the way down to reset all settings and it will allow you to change your language first. you might have to reset things like your clock and such, but at least your language is back.

Press menu a couple of times until you reach the home menu. Scroll down until you reach the last menu item that still has a ">" next to it, enter. Scroll right down to reset all settings, press it, select english and voila!
