On the WheelWriter series, sometimes the platen may pop out of position, causing only half the letters to print. If this is the case, easially solved... Using the left and right platen knobs, firmly push down to lock it back in place. Hope this helps....MediaMan

The platen is the black rubber roller.

Everything seems to be locking in but the IBM Personnel Wheelwriter 2 only typpes the top half of the letters. I put in new ribbon and checked everything else. Can this machine lock itself into doing this?

Typewriter is only typing the top half of each letter- changed ribbon- still doesn't type the bottom of the letters ???

typing the top half of each letter Donna, sounds like the carriage spool is stuck or out of adjustment. Not to hard, but pick up typewriter and slam it down on counter to see if it put carriage and spool back in position.
Good luck.

Why does my typewriter only type the top half of the under-case letters?

There is most likely something interfearing with the type bar segment try ing to lift up, try pulling it up by hand.

It is only typing half the letter

If it is the top half the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both sides it should snap into place.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

If it is only typing the top half of the letters the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, push down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

Typing only half letters

Possibly the lower edge of the ribbon has become folded over during fitting, it happens.

Wheelwriter 1500 is only printing the top half of the letters.

I have solved the problem. It turned out that the platen was not completely secured on the left end. Once I snapped it securely in place, the print was fine again. (I had to remove that platen three times to figure that out!) Sorry for the bother, but I'm glad to know where I can seek help now. Thanks.
