Monitor is dark. how to fix?

Walt, hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the Acer, F5, Display Toggle-Over key.

There are at least 3 display options available;

1) Internal display of laptop ONLY

2) Internal display of laptop AND external display

3) External display ONLY.

Were you just using the external display for more 'display real estate room', or was/is there a problem with the internal display of the laptop?

Was no problem? Is now? Even when using the guidance stated above for the Fn and F5 key?

Then if your laptop uses a CCFL for a Backlight, it also uses a screen Inverter. Screen Inverter is bad.

If it doesn't use CCFL/s for a backlight, and uses LED backlighting, replace the LCD screen.
The LED backlighting is incorporated in the LCD screen assembly, and you ain't replacing it.
Replace the entire LCD screen.

Post the laptop manufacturer name, and model number in a Comment. Model number is on Bottom of laptop.

Backlights are to bright

Take a ride to the local automotive store like Auto Zone and pick up a small sheet of dark window tint. Cut the tint to fit the display. That should do it. If it's still too bright, apply another layer of tint. Or buy several sheets of different darkness and find the perfect darkness in just one sheet.

Display is very dark.

Hello !

The most common reason for a dark screen, is a backlight problem. Your backlight or inverter board is faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Backlight not working on my hp laptop

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Screen is dark, can see images in a sunny room.

I see this quite a lot. Sometimes it's a loose connections between the motherboard and the lcd display. Especially if the laptop is 3 or so years old. I'm assuming you did a hard reboot and got the same thing. A lot of time the backlight will give out on olfer laptops and the only thing you can do is replace the lcd display or hook it up to seperate monitor. Two things I can recommend are;
1. Plug the laptop into a crt or lcd external monitor and see if you get the same thing or if you actually get a good image.
2. Press [Function] [F4} and see if switching between exteranl and internal monitors makes a difference.

My acer laptop screen is dark

Hello,

If your laptop screen is dark, it could be the backlight, inverter, or bad lcd. You can test the backlight by starting the laptop and give it a few seconds to load and take the laptop in a dark room and shine a flashlight on the lcd and see if you can see any pictures or icons. If you can, you may just need an inverter to correct the issue, If not, you may need to replace the inverter and lcd both.

If you find that you need parts to correct the issue. I would suggest that you begin with replacing the inverter first, as they are usually less expensive.

If you can supply me with the model number of the specific laptop you are having trouble with and I can try to locate more information on replacing the parts.

Thanks

HP Pavilion, Screen working, but extremely dark!

Hi,
As per your description, I find that the issue is with the LCD Backlight which is also called as LCD Inverter which lights up the LCD to show us the Display on the LCD Display.
If this Backlight is gone bad, you will be barely able to see the Display on the LCD.
Coming to the Noise you had mentioned above can be from the Cooling fans of the Notebook which will be spinning at high speed when the Notebook starts and will reduce gradually after few minutes.
I recommend you to try cleaning the Cooling fan vents using any Vacuum Cleaner or Air Blower.
I recommend you to contact any nearest HP Authorized Service Center and get the LCD Backlight replaced.
Hope this helps....

Dell Latitude LCD screen is dark, but computer is still working.

It sounds like the backlight has burned out. The faint light you are seeing is ambient light in your room being reflected through the LCD. Try it in a perfectly dark room and see if you can see anything on the screen. The following page should give you a sense of what is involved in replacing a backlight: http://home.comcast.net/~stonent/screenfix.htm If you aren't comfortable taking things like this apart, I would recommend finding a local repair shop to replace the backlight.
