you may have cobwebs in the gas orifices. shut off gas and power then poke each hole out with a wire turn on gas and power and try again

Turn the valve counter clock wise to open in and clock wise direction to close it.if its got stuck on any position,then move it on both direction and then move counter clock wise to open the valve.

When the pilot lights continue holding the button down for a full minute and then release. It should stay lit then to allow you to turn it to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit after holding it for the full minute, then the thermocouple will need to be replaced.
