Re: acer extensa 4220 wireless problem
I'm not sure if you tried hitting the appropriate key on your keyboard to initialize your wireless network. Check your manual to see which key it is, it is not automatic. Also, make sure you have a wireless card. Click on start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system it will give you a list of all your hardware, Look for 802.11b/g that is the wirless.

I have an Acer Extensa 5620 Laptop and it is Very fast, 3 gigs RAM expandable to 4, 358 MB of Video RAM, Dual Core processor, 1.82 Ghz. I do lots of graphic intensive multi-tasking, the computer keeps pace just fine.
I am not specifically familiar with your model, however I suggest you look for the panel with just one screw. I think you may be looking at the wrong panel.. This panel is probably about 2" x 3", and typically on the bottom. Removing a wrong panel will not do any harm, just re-position it, and replace the screw.
I had this problem also on my acer aspire 5520. This laptop has 2 3.5mm jacks. It was a bit embarrassing, but I had the headphones plugged into the input jack. Make sure that you have the head phones jack plugged into the correct jack.
i havea acer laptop to and this works sometimes right click on the spearker icon botom right in task bar and then goto sound and then playback you should see your speakers or your sound device right click it then goto properties and goto advance tab and make sure the Hz is right and make sure the volume is turned up on it
Actually since the Acer Extensa is more of a home use computer, it is not quiet as simple as working on business laptops. With the Extensa you have to remove the large panel on the bottom of the laptop that is held by 7 screws. The panel has 4 sets of vents in it and a 1 inch square rubber foot in the center. The screws do not completely come out as they appear to be fastened to the panel. Once you have loosed all 7 screws, there is a small place to insert your finger nail on the side close to the Windows Vista Certificate sticker. Just lift up on the panel easily as there are plastic tabs holding the panel still. Once you remove the panel, there is is only two screws holding the hard drive in place. Remove the two screws and slide the hard drive toward the back of the laptop. Done.
