Question about Apple iPod nano

1 Answer

IPod nano will not switch off

I have an iPod nano which is playing up a little! It is sometimes difficult to switch off, and simply turns itself on again, which discharges the battery rather quickly. It also shows the 'charging' icon when it isn't even connected to any power source. We have tried 're-booting' it, as well as restoring its factory settings via iTunes and this doesn't clear the problem. Please can you help?

Yes, the lock switch does work, but this does not seem to be connected to the problem as the iPod comes back on even if the lock switch is used as soon as it goes off.

Sleep feature appears only to have 'on' or 'off' settings. We have tried both of these, but the problem persists...

Occasionally when on there is no light on the display either.

Whenever the iPod is switched off, it immediately shows the large 'charging' icon, remaining on, and wasting power until iy runs out.

I have the same problem. My iPod will no longer turn off. Everything else is fine, but I can't turn it off. I teach dance classes with my iPod, so I really need to be able to turn it off to reserve the battery when it's not in use.

What is the sleep timer set at? Does it ignore it?

Thats about every trick in my book. If you have an Apple Store in your area or a Best Buy, they may have some other options but it sounds to me like the PCB is acting up and could need to be replaced.

How to reboot the ipod

Attach a USB connector to the iPod and plug it into a USB connection on a computer for power, or into a stand alone USB charger plugged into a power strip for electrical power.

Pick up the iPod. Move the "Hold" switch at the top of the iPod to the "Locked" position so that an orange color appears by the switch.

Return the switch to the "Unlocked" position.

Repeat this process.

Press and hold the "Home" button and the button at the top right corner together if using a fifth generation iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Mini or iPod with a click wheel.

Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "Play/Pause" button together if using an iPod Touch. Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "OK" button together if using an older iPod.

Continue holding the buttons together until the screen flashes and then displays the iPod name and the Apple logo.

Release the buttons.

Wait as the iPod resets itself and turns itself back on.

Leave the iPod connected to the USB connector so that it can fully charge the battery.

Remove the iPod from the USB connector.

Navigate to a song using the menu selection and play some music

hope this helps

My ipod was playing, i went to change the song and screen was black. tried changing the song, turning it on/off, resetting it, nothing worked. it stopped playing after the song and remains black

Have you tried turning the lock switch from locked to unlocked. There will be a little circular switch on the edge of the ipod that will appear red next to if it IS locked.

Won't turn on

Is your iPod fully charged? Sometimes the batteries become so depleted of charge that an accessory charger won't turn it on.

-Try plugging it in to your computer or a wall charger for a while, time will vary but it may turn on.

-If it is not turning on your computer will never recognize it, thus you won't be able to do a restore with iTunes.

-Try a hard restart as well this could help you.

IPOD NANO. The screen lights up but there is no

your screen is broken. the ipod still works in full, so the only problem is the screen.
the back-light still works, this is why the screen is lighting up.

this is problem a hardware, rather than software issue (e.g. physical damage) so its not something that can be fixed with a iPod 'restore'.

you have some choices at this point:

1) try and fix it yourself. this can be difficult but alot cheaper (if your good with directions, pick this)
go to ifixit.com
they have both the parts for the repair, as well as the instructions on how to do the repair itself.

2) send it off to apple to fix
this will be very expensive and slow, i don't recommend this.

3) sell it, and buy a new iPod.

Buttons don't work on ipod nano

Hi,
Had the same probs with 4th gen nano. Keys frozen. Reset it loads of times etc etc.
BUT I HAVE NOW FOUND A SOLUTION. !!!!!!!!!!
Use a very sharp knife or razer blade and make a small gap at the bottom, back. Between the white bottom plate and back of your ipod. While the knif is in you will notice the keys start working!!!! I used a small peice of a playing card and wedged it in the gap, up the back, only about 10mm. Its worked ever since!!!!! Hurray
PASS ON THE SOLUTION AS THIS IS A COMMON FAULT.

Nano goes blank

Reboot your Ipod by holding down on the center button while holding down on the menu button.

This should reboot your IPod.

If that doesn't work plug your Ipod into Itunes and restore your software back to factory settings. Make sure that battery if fully charged as well.

installed.
